Most of the ski resorts open all the runs at the Immacolata weekend. Immacolata is the 8th December (Tuesday this year) so they'll probably open the 5th to take advantage of the bank holiday weekend tourists. But I'd check before you head off. Enjoy the snow!

An Early Start to a Better Future America today is quite the place to be. Citizens from various nations are venturing to America, tagging along their language and culture, which enviably increases diversity amongst America. Culture that is brought to America is changing the American way of life and Americans are lacking knowledge of such culture. Education prepares children for the complicated world they inhabit and enables tools with which to understand new challenges. Since this globalization will augment, the need for foreign languages in elementary school is apparent. Diversity in America is forever growing. In the 2000 census, the U.S. Census Bureau collected data about languages other than English spoken in the U.S. Of the 262.4 million people in the United States over the age of five, 47 million (18 percent) reported speaking a language other than English at home. This represents an increase over the 31.8 million (14 percent) who reported speaking another language at home in the 1990 census and a further increase over the 23.1 million (11 percent) reported in the 1980 census. The 2000 figures show that the absolute number of people speaking other languages in the home has doubled since that time (Languages). This proven statistic truly emphasizes the vast increase of diversity in language, amongst America. America’s youth should better prepare themselves for the multilingual nation ahead. Due to the arrogance of numerous Americans, the mandating of a foreign language class in elementary school is nonexistent. These citizens are blind to the fact that the knowledge of two or more languages will better equip America’s future. Children will become familiar with backgrounds other than their own, which will help a child have an open mind about people around him or her; thus when a child has an open mind, that child will often grow to have a more empathetic and compassionate personality and can associate with a much larger variety of people. Because of this they will learn more about life and, additionally, may be better rounded and adjusted to modern life. Learning a second language at an early age sets the stage to learn more languages at an older age too. Already knowing how to absorb the information is extremely helpful even if it is simply background knowledge learned in elementary school. Americans, in general, are arrogant and take the stand that "if it's not in English, it's not worth hearing". I feel that a second language should be mandatory. If only our nation had a better understanding of others, we wouldn't be so quick to jump to judgment (I.e. war). Countries around the world are venturing into new ideas and exploring the old. The top rated countries for education all mandate a foreign language at an early age. It isn’t too late to mandate, for instance, every child in England will start learning a foreign language in primary school from the age of seven, the government announced. From 2010, it will be a required part of the national curriculum for children from the age of seven to 14 to study a foreign language, as the government attempts "to put languages at the heart of learning", said the education secretary in England, Alan Johnson (Andalo). All modern countries are leaning towards this intelligent requirement. Not only will this skill give children more opportunities in the world, it will also allow them to understand other cultures and lead the way to possibly learning even more languages in the future. The schools that adopt this policy will almost surely see an increase in positive performance, and our national ranking amongst the rest of the world. Since the 1960s, studies have shown that the best time to begin the study of a foreign language is in elementary school, due to the face that children at this age show a better mental flexibility, more creativity, divergent thinking skills, and improved memory skills. With this advantage kids are able to process language early on. Additionally, according to Tagliere, “strictly from a logical point of view, beginning a foreign language earlier would allow for a longer sequence of instruction, increasing the likelihood that a child would achieve true proficiency in a language”(Tagliere). Why shouldn’t America better its youth? If the educational system is enhanced, our nation will strive with intelligence. Students will experience life changing events that will enviably equip them for the diverse America ahead. Children who are adequately exposed to two or more languages at a young age experience gains that may never be replaced. Neurons within the brain are extremely active during childhood. By the time a child is five he or she’s brain is 90% developed, which is merely that of an adults (Zero). Neurons are branch like cells that create neural impulses for thinking, moving and the inhabitance of a knowledge base. After the age of twelve those neurons rapidly decrease in growth; thus, hindering language
