Everything you say is correct - but it can be expensive. The best way to do it is to live out of town, somewhere like Seaford, where rent is a lot lower but only 14 miles away from Brighton.

Brighton??????

Full question:

Hiya! i would like to organize my birthday this year in Brighton for a week end end of July. I live in Milton Keynes, I'm french and i don't know Brighton and was thinking to go there with a group of friends but it is a nightmare to plan it at the mo.... does anyone know where are the good places to go, to stay (hotels, bars etc...) if you know a website, and if you have been there before and would like to recommend it. please let me know, i would appreciate it a lot. Many thanks all!! x

Best answer:

There are loads of accomodation websites visitbrighton.com is one of many. I strongly suggest you think about booking accomodation soon Brighton is always full. Location of nightlife in Brighton is pretty well zoned. Trendy clubs etc between the piers on the seafront and in The Lanes. Gay Brighton east of the Lanes around St James St area. Rich and aging types in Hove. Yo ho ho types at The Marina. Quirky real Brighton in the pubs around the North Laines and south of Western Road and increasingly Lewes. Don't try to park or drive here (take a coach or train from MK). Some of many. http://www.juicebrighton.com/ http://www.brightonlife.com/ http://whatson.brighton.co.uk/

Is Kemp Town in Brighton a nice place to raise a young family?

Full question:

We are looking to move to Brighton and I love the townhouses in Kemp Town. I heard that here and Woodingdean are good places for young families- is this true? There are some fantastic primary schools in close proximity of KT but with limited garden space and no easy parking would it be worth looking further out? I dont know Brighton well- would Kemp Town be noisy at night, even in the residential streets? Any advice appreciated.

Best answer:

Kemptown, down market??? Ridiculous statement. Kemptown is the MORE upmarket side of Brighton, along with Hanover and of course Hove. Yes Kemptown is also popular with the gay market, but since when has that ever been a bad thing, you know what they say, if the gays want to live there, there must be good reason! I lived in Kemptown for 3 out of my 5 years in Brighton and it was definitely the best place to be. So central, gorgeous housing and parking is also NOT an issue, IF you can find a place which is inside Zone C, there is absolutely no wait on permits, you can walk in to the council and walk out with a permit, only £90 for the whole year as well. The areas around St James's Street will be noisier at night as this is the main stretch of shops and bars for Kemptown but the rest of the area is quite residential, so you should not hear much street noise.

Full question:

Apart from taking the car what the cheapest way to get from Brighton/Hove to Thorpe Park?

When do they start selling mulled wine in Brighton pubs?

Full question:

I went Christmas shopping last year in Brighton and it was so lovely. Everywhere had such a warm christmasy glow and all the pubs were selling mulled wine. Anyone know when they start doing this as I can't remember when I went last year. I understand that each pub decides when I was just wondering if it was a usual thing and what time of year they usually start doing it.

Best answer:

There is no set time, it is up to the pubs themselves to decide when or if they will offer it. Generally it is done in December..

What's the cheapest way to commute from Brighton to London twice a week?

Full question:

I am going to be staying in Brighton for about a month in August. I work in London on Thursday and Sat mornings. I need to figure out the most inexpensive way to commute back and forth twice a week. Anyone have some good info? Cheers!

Best answer:

there is no cheap way! (sorry...) if you're commuting and need to be there before 9, you'll have to get the most expensive ticket going - but only on thursday. on saturday you'll be able to get a weekend return, which are much cheaper if you work in london, do you have an oyster card? if so, it would probably work out cheaper to get a return to london victoria then use the tube on the oystercard, rather than getting a railcard from brighton

What are the similarites and connections between Brighton and London?

Full question:

I hear alot of people talking about Londoners going down to Brighton. So i was just wondering what all the fuss is about. Also what the music scene is like in Brighton? Thanks!

Best answer:

Brighton is v relaxed, chilled out, and open minded. You will see all sorts of people and trends and nobody bats an eye at some of the sights! It has a lot of decent, trendy places to go drinking and eat, as well as some quality restaurants. It also has the usual cattle market clubs. The music scene is excellent with a number of small venues, the dome, concorde II, and in May there is the Great Escape festival where all the small and big venues have bands on for a long weekend all round the town. Buy a ticket and you can get into any of them....great weekend. Similarities to London are that it has similar bars, housing, restaurants and entertainment. Connections - Train 50-60 mins from brighton to either London Bridge or Victoria. Well worth a weekend!

What is the best way for me to get to Brighton, England from the States?

Full question:

I've heard Gatwick is the closest airport. If so is there a direct train from the airport to Brighton? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Best answer:

The Brighton train stops right under the concourse at Gatwick. If you have to get a Heathrow flight, get the Heathrow-Gatwick bus which uses the M25 or go into London and get a train from Victoria station or London Bridge station. It'll stop at Gatwick nearly an hour into the journey and get to Brighton forty minutes after that, quicker if you get a fast train with limited stops. There is a frequent service so you won't have long to wait for a train. http://gouk.about.com/od/uktraveldirections/qt/Lond2Brighton.htm . . . . . There is also a bus service direct to Brighton from Gatwick operated by National Express and Jetlink. You can get a cheap evening return on the train from Brighton to London so seeing a show in the West End or the O2 Arena is no problem. Return trains run till around midnight and there is an all-night bus service in Brighton serving the most popular areas. I have family near Brighton and we sometimes meet at Gatwick as a half way point between Luton where travel from and the south coast. Brighton is fun.....but cold and windy at times. Good nightlife but some trouble in some of the nightclubs sometimes. Mostly pretty good though. Worth going to and some great places around for trips out....the famous white chalk cliffs are not just in Dover. Beachy Head is good, and Eastbourne which lies just east of it.is a very popular resort. This answer is old but still true http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081112144521AAiuLlw . . . . There is no main line station at Heathrow and no train service from Heathrow to Brighton but there is a bus, either via London Victoria bus station or via Gatwick...the one mentioned above. By train from Heathrow you need to get into London Paddington on the London Underground link on the Heathrow Express or the cheaper slower trains, and continue by the Underground to London Bridge or Victoria station for the Brighton train....a tortuous and expensive route. It is cheaper and easier and most times quicker to get the bus to Gatwick and pick up the train from there or stay on the bus if it's a Jetlink to Brighton and not just the Heathrow-Gatwick service. Have a good time and bring a load of cash. Britain is expensive.

How many dogs can I legally own in Brighton, Colorado?

Full question:

My family and my parents are planning to move to Brighton, Colorado and buy a house. We have 2 dogs and my parents have two dogs. I'm wondering if we will be able to license 4 pets in the same home. What train do I get from London Victoria to Brighton?

Full question:

I'm planning to go to Brighton but I don't know what train to take from London victoria >.< Helpp?

Best answer:

Once you've bought your ticket the trains will come up on the board above the platforms - all Brighton trains will leave from Platforms 15-18, you need to go down to the right of the escalators. Make sure you get on a train that is only stopping at 3 or 4 stations (normally Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport and possibly Preston Park) otherwise it will take longer to get to Brighton.

Which is the safest nicest area to live in Brighton or around?

Full question:

Hi I would like to know which part of Brighton or around is a safe place to live. A really would like the seafront. If someone can tell me about the areas , like good area , bad area. Which part of the city living the first class people, the middle etc. We are planning to move there, but have no idea which part is safe and good! Thank you very much for your time!

Best answer:

Well if you want super rich area then millionaires row where Zoe Ball and Norman Cook live in Hove is the place to be, right on the beach. Some parts of Hove are rough and to be avoided, basically staying away from large council and housing association estates(sorry guys who do live in these places). Withdean, Westdene, Stanmer Park, Surrenden, Patcham, Goldstone are all lovely leafy areas to live and all properties will have a price tag to match. If you move along the coast a little Rottingdeand and Ovingdean are lovely as are many parts of Shoreham.

How much money do I need to live well in Brighton?

This includes being able to afford a 1 bedroom flat with all the utilities etc, mobile phone, internet etc, and be able to eat out at least once a week, plus going out 2-3 times per week. I live about 20 miles outside London: Rent for small 2 bed apartment (550 sq ft) is £1250 Council Tax is £150 per month Utilities around £80 per month Income tax is around 32% including health Petrol is £1.13 per litre and car tax is £100 per year All in all it's pretty expensive considering London rents/mortgages are another 30% on top of that! Can someone tell me the good and bad about the Brighton neighborhood in Seattle?

Full question:

Lived in Leschi (quiet and beautiful, near Lake Washington) but its been a few years and has gotten too expensive for us. Brighton is affordable, my son is @ Western Washington U., so schools are not an issue.

Best answer:

Brighton is ok. There isn't a whole lot that stands out about it for me. A lot of car prowlings and such if you're real close to MLK, and other arterials but otherwise it's pretty quiet. If you want the super quiet of Leschi but without the price tag, you might consider Madrona as well.

From Brighton to the closest part of the French Coast, how many miles is it roughly?

The shortest distance from Brighton to the French coastline is just under 73 miles, if measured from Brighton Marina to the cliffs west of Veulettes-sur-Mer, Normandy http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=49.852816,0.596738&spn=0.015744,0.038581&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=49.852811,0.596639&panoid=ce6uNTZU6SRyHNN13rmimw&cbp=12,290.22,,0,-0.1 This makes Brighton marginally nearer to the French coast than it is (as the crow flies) to English towns such as Bournemouth, Ramsgate and Luton

What candles will fit in a Brighton Menorah?

Full question:

I bought a Brighton Menorah and the regular Chanukah candles don't fit. Anyone else have one? Does anyone actually have a Brighton Menorah? The holes are a good deal larger that the candles. Aside from that, it is a beautiful Menorah.

Best answer:

Whenever it's to big/small, light a match under the candle to make the wax melt off, and there you go! :) (It also helps keep the candle on the Menorah.)

I want to study engineering at brighton but im average at maths should i still do it?

Full question:

Basically im worried if ill struggle a lot and also i have no idea about physics. Also if you know anything about brighton and whats its like just let me know. Thanks.

Best answer:

Here's my opinion. If you think you might or will regret it if you don't try, then you have to do (i.e., try) no matter what. If it isn't working out (i.e., you fail a math class or are unhappy for whatever reason), you can always change your major to something else. You may or may not need to stay in college an additional year or so but I changed my major twice and was able to still graduate in four years. Good Luck. I don't know anything about Brighton other than it is a good school.
