Questions and Answers

Here are common questions and answers relating to Chestnut Mountain Resort...

Snow Skiing Questions

The following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category:

Which of the ski resort is best?

Full question:

Chestnut Mountain (at Galena, IL), The Mountain top (at Grand Geneva, WI), or Devil's Head (the one in Wisconsin)? I've been to Colorado (Steamboat and Keystone) and Montana (Big Sky) before but we don't have the time or money this year to travel out West so I need to pick from a local ski resort. I live in northern IL

Best answer:

I was a ski and snowboard instructor at Devils Head, Cascade, and Mount LaCrosse. Of these southern Wisconsin resorts, Devils Head is probably the best for diversity of terrain as well as vertical. Cascade is simple. Mount LaCrosse is a wonderful place with a very friendly atmosphere. However, moguls are always groomed down at Mount LaCrosse. Look up the vertical and number of runs for each resort to get a little better idea. Colorado has better ski resorts when you have the skills and money to travel.

Questions from Other Categories

The following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant:

Has anyone been to Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, IL recently? Have then done any renovations?

Full question:

I just booked a weekend and some reviews I read say the rooms smell musty and dirty and that the resort is just plain old and outdated.

Best answer:

That place will someday collapse from neglect. Stay in Galena or Eagle Ridge Lodge if you can afford it.

What are the best resorts for Snowboarding close to Chicago, IL?

Full question:

I have been to Chestnut mountain and Alpine valley so far. However, nothing compares to Colorado. Are there any decent resorts in surrounding states that would bring some decent experience for an intermediate snowboarder?

Best answer:

i will agree with you i am from Breckenridge, colorado and i moved to northern wisconsin and i have found that Granite Peak in Wausau is close to colorado but smaller.
