Full question:

Any suggestions for a good hunting location in Comox Valley, or within a couple of hours drive from CV. Thanks J

Best answer:

This is a complete guess, so do some research before you proceed, but what about Burn's Bog? Short of going north, that would be my first thought. Good luck and happy hunting!

What are some things to do in comox valley?

Full question:

I'm staying in a place near royston and i've never been there before. I'm just looking for things to do. Mayb swimming, shopping, gym, partying. Any ideas you have wold be great! Thanks I have bikes and sometimes a car because its my parents

Best answer:

There's nothing spectacular in the way of shopping, except maybe walking the few blocks along 5th St in Courtenay, which has a bunch of small shops, many of them with nice stuff. Other than that, there's one small mall(Driftwood Mall) in Courtenay, and another at the south edge of Courtenay that has a Wal-mart, Winners, a few other stores. The movie theatre is at Driftwood Mall. There are two aquatic centres, one at Comox Valley Aquatic centre, one at the CV Sports Centre where there's also a gym. Can't help you with the partying, I'm afraid. Not my thing. The Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay often has good shows of one kind or another. You didn't say if you have a car or not. It would help a lot if you did. There's bus service to Royston and you can take a bus from there all the way to Campbell River for a few bucks, but they don't run very often.

Anyone who lives in/near or has been to the Comox Valley(on Vancouver Island), in B.C., Canada?

Full question:

Comox Valley on Vancouver Island in B.C, Canada I'm going to make a trip down there in the summer, and was wondering if anyone who knows the area knows of any really great spots. I love photography, so anywhere that stands out will be perfect.

Best answer:

When you arrive, go to the Chamber of Commerce info place on Cliffe Ave(Hwy 19A) in Courtenay(old black locomotive beside it) and get one of their Comox Valley maps. It's got all the roads there are in the valley. For me, this place is all about being near the water. Check out Goose Spit in Comox on a summer evening, and going north there's Point Holmes(looks like the Texas Gulf Coast to me), Williams Beach, Seal Bay, Miracle Beach(some huge trees and great moss), Saratoga Beach, Salmon Point and others in between. Just about every beach has public access though you might not find official parking spaces at all of them. Nice forest trails off Williams Beach Rd. There's a nice beach walk between the Fisherman's Lodge pub on the Oyster River and Salmon Point, good food at both. The view across the Strait is good everywhere. Just meander around and take side roads, there's lots. Go to the Canadian Hydrographic Service website for tide tables. Some beaches don't have much to them on a very high tide. Don't forget the nearby islands like Hornby and Denman to the south, and Quadra up by Campbell River. Going up Mount Washington is worth it for the view. Cumberland has some neat old houses. South of Courtenay are Royston Union Bay, Fanny Bay, neat little places.

Are there any Haunted places in the Comox Valley in British Columbia?

Full question:

I need to know for school

Best answer:

Haven't heard of any. How about looking up the Chamber of Commerce in Courtenay and asking them? Oh, wait, found one. I'm not going to do all your homework for you, since learning to research things is part of why they give you homework like this, but go to discovercomoxvalley.com, and look for heritage info on Cumberland. The reference to the ghost is in there.

Racism in the Comox Valley?

Full question:

With the recent video making it's way around the internet, I've seen some people who claim to have lived there that stat this is quite common in the Comox Valley. Just wondering, is this something that is common there or not? Curious as I am planning on moving there. From what I've seen on the internet, it appears to be a nice little area to live except for this recent incident.

Best answer:

I've lived here almost 3 years and this is the first I've heard of this kind of thing. It happens everywhere from time to time, sad to say. There's not a lot of racial diversity here, though there's a pretty strong native presence in Campbell River.

Bicycling in Courtenay/Comox Valley?

Full question:

I'm planning on moving to Courtenay (or somewhere within the Comox Valley) and for the most part I prefer to get around by bike. How is Courtenay and the Valley for commuting by bike. I recall reading somewhere that the Comox Valley has the second most bicycle commuters in Canada (behind Victoria) so I'm just wondering how it is there.

Best answer:

I live 1/2 hour(driving) north of Courtenay and see cyclists along the highway every time I drive into town, everything from old guys on one-speeds to serious cyclists with fancy bikes and all the gear. More in summer of course. It's pretty flat around here. Paved shoulders on Highway 19A. The local buses have bike racks on the front so you can usually do part of a trip by bus if the schedule works for you. I say usually because the racks only take two bikes, I think, though I haven't had any trouble the times I've taken bus and bike into town. Except for a few intersections at some times of day, the streets aren't clogged with cars either.

Comox or Courtenay, what's the difference?

Full question:

Why is Comox a town while Courtenay a city? Is there any shopping mall in this area? Does the Comox valley lack cultural diversity? What is it about this place that is so appealing?

Best answer:

Being called a city or a town is mostly a matter of what was chosen when the place incorporated. There are 'cities' that are smaller than many 'towns'. Courtenay is a bit bigger, a bit busier than Comox, otherwise not much difference. Yes, there are shopping malls in this area. There's not as much cultural diversity here as in some places, but there's some. As for what's so appealing--the weather is good, the scenery is great, there are lots of outdoor activities and a lot of arts activities for a small place, there's excellent food available, it's big enough to offer everything you need without being crowded, and it's not all that far from larger cities or complete wilderness. Best place I've ever lived.

Is it legal to buy fireworks online and ship them to British Columbia?

Full question:

I want to get some firework but I don't know if it's legal. I live in the Comox valley on Vancouver Island and I want to know if anyone knows if they will ship fireworks to me.

Best answer:

I doubt it! I can not comment on Canadian Postal regulations or laws but fireworks are considered explosives. They usually can not be shipped or transported without special permits. Possession may not be legal in BC.

Full question:

I have been trying unsuccessfully, for an hour to simply read the freecycle Comox Valley posts. This is not a very user friendly interface. Please remove me and my identity form your list

Best answer:

If it's a Yahoo group, I doubt anyone from it reads Yahoo Answers. If you want to leave a group, you need to do it yourself and your use of the R word is offensive those who joined a group via e-mail subscribe or were added members can only leave by the unsubscribe e-mail, but leaving a group via the unsubscibe e-mail is faulty, if that's the only way you can leave, you will need the help form http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/members/contact/ygbugform.html go to group home page and click edit membership top middle of page- bottom right click Leave Group- next page confirm and click Leave or go to this link http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups click edit my groups on the top left- locate group (if there's more than one) under the last column check the small box - click save changes

Best answer:

The group moderator may not have had a chance to check all of the pending messages yet, including yours. Check the group's website to see if they have actually been posted yet. Sometimes messages are slow in coming to you. If you do not see the messages on the website tonight, wait until tomorrow morning and check again. If they still have not been posted by then, you could contact the group owner to see what's going on.

Trying to find location closest to Forks, WA... Help!?

Full question:

I am looking around Craigslist trying to browse some ads for Forks, WA but I am unable to figure out which city/area is closest to Forks, WA. Obviously I don't live there, or I'd probably know the answer =D. The closest city with any real population is Port Angeles, but even that is 56 miles away. Thanks for helping! Options listed on Craigslist : bellingham comox valley fraser valley kamloops kelowna moses lake nanaimo olympic pen portland salem seattle skagit spokane sunshine coast tri-cities vancouver victoria wenatchee whistler yakima I need it based off of the options listed above. These are the ONLY options Craigslist has given me. Thanks. Chow - Your very first answer is extremely incorrect. According to Mapquest, Shoreline WA is at least over a 100 miles away. I haven't looked at the others, but they probably wont help me since you didn't pay attention to the list of options I posted. US-101 to Edmonds-Kingston 3 hrs 19 mins / 128.84 miles US-101 to I-5 N 4 hrs 11 mins / 205.40 miles Once again, your Seattle WA is incorrect. I can tell you by looking at ANY map of Washington you'll notice that Forks is no where near Seattle. In general, like I said previously as well, Forks is at least 50 miles from any city with any kind of real population. Most are small towns with a few hundred to a thousand people. US-101 to I-5 S 3 hrs 32 mins / 140.19 miles US-101 to I-5 N 3 hrs 58 mins / 194.40 miles US-101 4 hrs 19 mins / 216.91 miles Mentioning California when I am trying to find what city I should be looking up on Craigslist in order to search there is a bit irrelevant. I don't need CA, I need WA. Secondly, LA to Forks, WA is 1200 miles. Not 900. All of those nearest cities you listed are very incorrect. I don't think you spelled Forks right, or something was misled you during your search. Thanks

Best answer:

Forks, Washington, USA, is located in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula, between the Olympic mountains and the Pacific Ocean beaches. ------------------ ==> Therefore, "olympic pen" would be your best option! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Hope this is helpful.

My eyes are alway burning:(?

Full question:

Every day and all year long, my eyes burn and sting to the point where i have to wipe them every couple of minutes from the tears! :S I went to my optometrist and she gave me artificial tear drops, but that didn't work it just made everything worse to i quite using them. Usually this starts to happen when im in school, or when there's wind. I think im actually allergic to the valley! If it means anything i live on Vancouver Island, Comox BC. I've been to two different schools in the district and this happened in both. My current school is quite new and it still happens. Yes i wear glasses, but not all the time, there only for seeing far (I'm near sighted) I don't think its my proactive tthat'scausing this because even before i started using it this was happening Also im 13 and this has happend for a couple years. And I'm going to so my eye doc on the 27 so ill ask her again! I dont smoke...Thats nasty I would NEVER do suck a thing to my body. And i wash my hands. I think I've tryed $70.00 eye drops... and thats a tiny bottle. But they worked alittle Squinting them doesn't work, i always have to do it to relieve the burning.

Best answer:

I actually had this happen to me a few years ago. I went to my ophthalmologist, not optometrist for my left eye. I ended up having a clogged tear duct. We tried Rx drops and even tried to irrigate the tear duct. These did not work, so I had to go to a specialist and have reconstruction surgery and have a new tear duct made. Then about two years later, it happened to my right eye. Not fun to have surgery again, but now I have no problems.
