Getting most of information you need is easy. The hardest information to get is financial information since it is proprietary and most companies will refuse to tell you how much they sell and how much they make. but there is a way to work out an average. For instance total sales in your city for restaurants is 1 million dollars and your city has 3 restaurants so you assume that each restaurnt made $333,333 in sales per year but wait one restaurant is bigger than the other 2 one restaurant is 1000 sq feet the other two are only 500 sq feet so that means the big restaurant made $500,000 in one year and the 2 smaller ones made $166,000 and change you can work out sales roughly by working out the square footage of the restaurants since they will never tell you what they truly make. take the total sales for your city for resaturant revenue find out how many restaurants operate in your city figure out the square footage of each restaurant and that should give you a rough estimate of each resaaturants total sales. you can also be unethical and pose or have someone pose as a student for a business project and schedule meetings with managers and owners and interview them and ask how much they make.

How strong does a tornado have to be (F/EF?) to scour the ground of all vegetation down to bedrock?

Full question:

I was researching a tornado which struck my area (Western Massachusetts) on May 29, 1995 in Great Barrington. I read that suction vortices cleaned the forest floors of all vegetation, apparently right down to bedrock. How strong would a tornado have to be based on the Fujita or Enhanced Fujita Scale to do so? Please only answer if you are educated on this subject... this tornado was rated F4, but the ground scouring was not taken into account for its rating.

Best answer:

EF4 to EF5 tornadoes are strong enough to scour the ground. EF5's can scour the ground down to clay or rock.

What are the best restaurants for a rehearsal dinner for 35 people in the northwest suburbs of Chicago?

Full question:

I am getting married and I need to find a rehearsal dinner place near Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates or South Barrington. Great ambiance and classiness is a must, but not too expensive. Hopefully somewhere with a private or semi private room. Any ideas?

Best answer:

I know that Maggiano's in Schaumburg is a great place to do larger private parties like that. They even have their own private party rooms that can be rented out. The food is Italian, so everybody will enjoy that. It is not too expensive, but the atmosphere is wonderful. You can check out their website at maggianos.com

Which is the coolest Chicago Suburb on the Union Pacific North line?

Full question:

I am 23 moving to chicago for the first time and will be working near the great lakes naval center. I dont know weather I want to move as close as possible to work as I usual do or if I want to find a better place to live near the line not to far from the naval center. I like nightlife, parks, and interesting hoods. I also kind like safety and low living costs.

Best answer:

Evanston would be my pick for "coolest", but sometimes cool has trade offs. The safety in that suburb is sketchy in certain areas. See http://evanstonnow.com/crime for some data. Also, it's not close to your work in North Chicago; it's toward the southern end of the line. Yet it is closer to Chicago, which will allow you to check out cooler areas easier and have a nightlife. Most suburbs have parks. Nightlife might be limited though. Also, it's not clear exactly what "low living costs" are for you. With that said, you might want to check out Lake Zurich, which is very scenic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Zurich,_Illinois ) and Buffalo Grove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Grove,_Illinois ). Likely out of the affordability range, but are still nice places -- Barrington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrington,_Illinois ), Northbrook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northbrook,_Illinois ), and Arlington Heights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington_Heights,_Illinois , more west of the UPN line though, as is Schaumburg).

Anyone know a Japanese restaurant in NYC where we can make our own sushi!?

Full question:

I'd like to take my boyfriend out for a fun dinner experience 12/27. He loves sushi, and I thought it would be great to be able to make our own. I have heard of things like this, but does anyone know any details? I wouldn't even know where to start looking. Google has been no help.

Best answer:

Do you mean put it together yourself? That I can't help. But all the good restaurants let you create your own concoctions. Lately I have found the best to be something you wouldn't want to do yourself, you would definetly want a pro to do, get this in my fav place in Great Barrington, MA, better than NY, even though we are under NY. It's got an outside of toasted coconut around white rice, but can be done with brown rice, filled with where I go real crab, it's crab that has been breaded and fried and put in the roll along with papaya, some veggies and is supposed to have eel, but I'm not one of those eel eaters, and they have their own sauce in it that I'm sorry I can't tell you as they won't tell me. Oh, I'm getting hungry. But you wouldn't want to do a lot of these fancy rolls by yourself unless you are really careful. I know I'd be eating a napkin.

Who is the greatest sixties philosopher, sorry if I spelled that wrong?

Full question:

I'm looking for some of the more influencial philosophers that were considered "out there" in the sixties

Best answer:

Probably the most influential political philosopher of the 1960s was Herbert Marcuse closely followed by Timothy Leary of LSD fame (Tune in, Turn on, Drop out). Herbert Marcuse was born in Berlin to a Jewish family, served in the German Army caring for horses in Berlin during the First World War. He then became a member of a Soldiers' Council that participated in the aborted socialist Spartacist uprising. Notably, the uprising was crushed by the Freikorps, a proto-fascist militia precursor to the Nazis. After completing his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Freiburg in 1922 on the German Kunstlerroman, he moved back to Berlin, where he worked in publishing. He returned to Freiburg in 1929 to write a habilitation with Martin Heidegger. Heiddegger, who was close to the Nazis, did not accept the completed manuscript, which was published in 1932 as Hegel's Ontology and Theory of Historicity. With his academic career blocked, in 1933 Marcuse joined the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research, emigrating from Germany that same year, going first to Switzerland, then the United States, where he became a naturalized citizen in 1940. Although he never returned to Germany to live, he remained one of the major theorists associated with the Frankfurt School, along with Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno. In 1940 he published Reason and Revolution, a dialectical work studying Hegel and Marx. During World War II Marcuse first worked for the U.S. Office of War Information (OWI) on anti-Nazi propaganda projects. In 1943 he transferred to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). His work for the OSS involved research on Nazi Germany and denazification. After the dissolution of the OSS in 1945, Marcuse was employed by the US Department of State until 1951 as head of the Central European section, retiring after the death of his first wife in 1951. In 1952 he began a teaching career as a political theorist, first at Columbia University and Harvard, then at Brandeis University from 1958 to 1965, where he was professor of philosophy and politics, and finally (already retirement-age), at the University of California, San Diego. He was a friend and collaborator of the historical sociologist Barrington Moore, Jr. and of the political philosopher Robert Paul Wolff. In the post-war period, he was the most explicitly political and left-wing member of the Frankfurt School, continuing to identify himself as a Marxist, a socialist, and a Hegelian. Marcuse's critiques of capitalist society (especially his 1955 synthesis of Marx and Freud, Eros and Civilization, and his 1964 book One-Dimensional Man) resonated with the concerns of the leftist student movement in the 1960s. Because of his willingness to speak at student protests, Marcuse soon became known as "the father of the New Left," a term he disliked and rejected. His work heavily influenced intellectual discourse on popular culture and scholarly popular culture studies. He had many speaking engagements in the US and Europe in the late 1960s and in the 1970s. He died on July 29, 1979, after having suffered a stroke during a visit to Germany. He had spoken at the Frankfurt Römerberggespräche, and second-generation Frankfurt School theorist Jürgen Habermas had invited him to the Max-Planck-Institute for the Study of the Scientific-Technical World in Starnberg. Many radical scholars and activists were influenced by him, for example Angela Davis and Abbie Hoffman. (See the List of Scholars and Activists link, below.) Among those who critiqued him from the left were Marxist-Humanist Raya Dunayevskaya, and fellow German emigre, Paul Mattick, who both subjected One-Dimensional Man to a Marxist critique. Marcuse's 1965 essay "Repressive Tolerance", in which he claimed capitalist democracies can have totalitarian aspects, has been vilified by conservatives. (See the Marcuse Haters Page) Marcuse argues that genuine tolerance does not tolerate support for repression, since doing so ensures that marginalized voices will remain unheard. He characterizes tolerance of repressive speech as "inauthentic." Instead, he advocates a discriminating tolerance that does not allow repressive intolerance to be voiced.

I live in Beacon, NY and I want to visit Great Barrington, MA. How can I get there - not by car?

Full question:

I can't find any train or bus routes

Best answer:

The old joke about how you can't get there from here applies. The only route I can see is to take the Metro-North commuter train to New York, and then the Peter Pan bus back up to Great Barrington, a slow, expensive, V-shaped route.

What are Steven Kings greatest novels?

Full question:

I've read Bag of Bones (loved it) and am currently reading Christine. What are his best creations and are there any other novels you could recommend that may be similar to Bag of Bones? ie. involving personal relationships, love, and supernatural activity!

Best answer:

The Stand By Stephen King http://www.amazon.com/Stand-Stephen-King/dp/B0012I8MNQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300936382&sr=1-2 I loved this book! It is very lengthy, but I have read it 3 times. It scares me to death whenever we have a real-life outbreak of bird flu, swine flu, etc. This book goes in the category of post-apocalyptic fiction, and it really makes you think about the end of the world. Stephen King seems to be psychic. He wrote the book in 1978, but I could easily see it all happening today. You will find all that you are looking for: drama, adventure, complex personal relationships, love, supernatural activity, the fight for survival, and the battle between good and evil. http://www.amazon.com/Stand-Expanded-First-Complete-Signet/product-reviews/0451169530/ref=sr_1_6_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 Here is a section of one reader's comment from the Amazon website: By J. N. Mohlman (Barrington, RI, USA) Second to consider is the plot. As I alluded to earlier, King has used the emptied United States as a battleground between good and evil. Soon after the flu has run its course, the survivors begin having dreams about an old woman (Mother Abigail) who seems to be marshalling the forces of good, and a malign presence (Randall Flagg) who is gathering those who would serve him and his ends. Insofar as the reader knows, the choice is clear-cut, irrevocable and mandatory. It is very much a "are you with us or against us" type of situation. That said, much of the book is devoted to the characters traveling across country to Boulder or Las Vegas (guess which side is where), no mean feat in a world without mass transit, hotels, etc. In fact, King's writing is so effective, the novel would be fascinating if the characters did nothing but travel around and attempt to reestablish society. The second, metaphysical, layer just makes it all the more interesting.

How long did it take Henry Know to travel to Fort Ticonderoga?

Full question:

....when he was traveling there to take the cannons to bring back to Boston.

Best answer:

He left for Fort Ticonderoga a few days after Nov. 16, 1775, so maybe the 19th. He arrived at Fort Ticonderoga Dec. 5, 1775, so he took about 17 days to get there. He immediately began moving the cannon out of the fort. He reached Cambridge, Mass Jan. 24, 1776, so bringing them back took 51 days. "Beefy young Henry Knox proposed a plan which, on the 16th of November of 1775, Washington ordered him to carry out. Leaving Cambridge a few days later with a small escort" "Knox arrived at Fort Ticonderoga on the evening of December 5, 1775 accompanied by his nineteen-year-old brother William and a servant, Miller. Early the next day, assisted by the garrison of Fort Ticonderoga, he began to move the guns." "The route followed modern Route 23 east out of Great Barrington until it intersected Route 20 west of Westfield, then along Route 20 through Springfield, Wilbraham, Palmer and onto Route 9 at Warren, then along Route 9 to Brookfield, Spencer, Leicester, and Worcester. Then the path went back onto Route 20 to Shrewsbury, through Northborough, Marlborough and Southborough. From there it passed Framingham, Wayland, Weston, Waltham, and Watertown, finally entering Cambridge on January 24th, 1776." It took a little while longer to get them up the hill in Boston. "March 7th, 2,000 Continental soldiers maneuvered the guns to a hill overlooking the city. The British had no choice but to evacuate Boston. " Edit: I reordered the answer so getting to Fort Ticonderoga would be on top.

Sugar and corn subsidies and their effect on food production?

Full question:

Can someone explain how legislation effects the price of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. I heard that some companies use high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar because the price is determined by legislation. Is this true, can someone explain?

Best answer:

An agricultural subsidy is a governmental subsidy paid to farmers to supplement their income, help manage the supply of agricultural commodities, and bolster the supply of such commodities on international markets. The U.S. Agricultural Department is required by law to subsidize over two dozen commodities. Between 1996 and 2002, an average of $16 billion/year was paid by programs authorized by federal legislation dating back to the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933, the Agricultural Act of 1949, and the CCC Charter Act of 1948, among others. The beneficiaries of the subsidies have changed as U.S. agriculture changes. In the 1930s, about a quarter of the U.S. population resided on the nation's six million small farms. By 1997, 157,000 large farms accounted for 72% of farm sales, with only 2% of the U.S. population residing on farms. Congress has made dozens of changes to the program over the years, as agricultural policy and the economy has changed. One of the more recent acts was the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, which is in effect until 2007. Currently (as of Nov. 2005), the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) forecast for the fiscal year 2005 is for a trade surplus of $4.5 billion with $62 billion in exports. how bad is the commute from Crystal Lake to Hoffman Estates, Il. travel times usually 630 am and 530 pm?

Full question:

Looking to relocate and main office in Hoffman Estates. Curious about traffic on the roads. Great town, but hate to get stuck in horrible traffic everyday. Thanks! thanks! The AT&T building is where he will headed. Not sure of its exact location. Thanks for all the info.

Best answer:

Its not horrible as long as you stick to the schedule you outlined. It also depends on where in H.E. If you are commuting to the Prairie Stone business park area, it is easier than if you are going to Golf and Roselle. Fridays may be challenging going home and snow screws up all of our commutes. Edit: The AT &T location is good for commuting from Crystal Lake. Just East of Barrington Rd and I-90. Shouldn't be a problem.

Where Can I Buy a Field Hockey Stick in the GTA?

Full question:

I've been playing field hockey for a couple of years and would like to buy a good composite stick. However, I would like to try it out before I buy one so I would rather not buy online.

Best answer:

GTA, I'm guessing that that is Greater Toronto Area? You could probobly try your local sporting goods stores. Ususally they carry sticks, balls, bags, shinpads, ect. If not you can always visit online sites like justhockey.com and Barrington Sports online and order a stick, keep the plastic on and try it a little.:/ Sorry I couldn't provide that much info but I hope this helps.
