Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to Lake Louise... Snow Skiing QuestionsThe following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category: should i go skiing in fernie or lake louise?Full question:im unsure at the moment and would like your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of both ski hills? Best answer:Fernie smaller area and friendly area. LL a big resort with good night life. Your choice. Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: How many seasons ago did Lake Louise Ski Resort remove the Olympic Double Chair?Full question:I havent gone skiing at lake louise for a really long time, but the Olympic Chair, according to the lake louise trail maps has been removed. How long ago did that happen? Are they going to replace it with another chair? Best answer:I know it was still there in 2000, but I believe it was taken out of LL the following season or perhaps 2002. If it's been at least that long since you were there, and you're planning to go this season, then you're in for a real treat!! They've added a TON of new runs and lifts!! You won't even recognize Louise anymore! Where are there cabins in lake louise, banff or jasper that are open during Christmas?Full question:Could someone please tell me if there are cabins in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper or somewhere close to those places that can house four people and one small dog over the Christmas break? (2009) Best answer:Yes in Banff; yes in Jasper; No in Lake Louise. The cabins (houses) that you will find in those 2 towns will all be privately owned, but there is no shortage of people willing to rent them out. Lake Louise essentially has NO private dwellings in it...but it is an easy driving distance from Banff. Look on Kajiji.com, and in the appropriate cities, to find the rentals you are seeking. If you can't find any listings under Banff or Jasper, look under Calgary or Edmonton, respectively. Any recommendations of an itinerary for a week long camping/hiking trip from Vancouver to Banff/Lake Louise?Full question:Looking for must-see sights and great hikes in the Banff/Lake Louise/Jasper area. We only have a week to make the round-trip from Vancouver. Is there anywhere along the way that is worth stopping for a day? We are big hikers and want as much natural beauty as possible! Also looking for recommended campgrounds - preferrably tent-only places, but we do like flush toilets and showers. Thanks for your help! Best answer:You'll want to stop at Lake Louise and quite close to there is Morraine Lake - beautiful! Johnston Canyon is between Lake Louise and Banff on the old highway. That is a gorgeous hike up. The ink pots at the top are worth a day trip. What Is The Human Features of Lake Louise Alberta?Full question:so I need help, what are the human features and interactions of Lake Louise Alberta? Thanks Best answer:Lake Louise is pretty much a natural glacial lake on a river. There is a chalet at the down stream end that dominates the lake. The chalet is built on a "terminal moraine" of the glacier. The glacier is now visible upstream beyond the lake. The human features of the lake are the chalet and the boats for hire . With all such lakes, there is a risk that if there is a heavy rainstorm that part of the blockage in the valley will be washed away resulting in the release of some of the water. has anyone done work and play canada at lake louise?Full question:ive applied to do this work and play canada with OWH at lake louise as a liftie.....has anyone else done this? was it good? did u get accepted easily or were there alot of people going for it? how was the accomodation etc? Best answer:Sorry, only been there as a tourist a few times. How do I find holiday rental property in Lake Louise for 8-10 people end of January.?Full question:I am attending a family wedding in Lake Louise in January 07 and would like to rent a house that will cater for 8-10 people for a two week period. All I can find on the web are chalets which are too small. Best answer:Many great condos listed for rent in the Lake Louise area at www.vamoose.com I wish that I was going, as it will be really beautiful when you will be there. I have only been at Lake Louise during the summer months. Is there a travel agent (or agencies) in Lake Louise?Full question:Or do I have to go to Banff? Some buddies and I are going planning on setting out on a trip to wherever the wind will take us; starting with lake louise. But I want to make sure that there will be an agent there when the time comes. Best answer:Forget the travel agent... Take a look at my blog, you should find some interesting places to visit. Hotels are a little pricey. I'm going back again this year for another visit. Worth the $$$. http://rockies2005.blogspot.com Great place to visit. Canmmore was a nice town with some good restaurants. How much it cost visit Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff & canadian rockies parks??Full question:Hi Im gonna visit canada but I'll travel by myself I have relatives in Edmonton. I wanna visit Jasper, Lake louise, Banff & canadian rockies, but How much it cost visit each one? Cost of Entrance? and so on Best answer:I was just in Jasper. To get a park pass there so as to stay overnight cost me $20. If you stop in any of those 3 places you would need to have a park pass (unless you weren't in a car). Other than that there are no costs, except for what you decide to do eg, Gondola ride in Banff or go to the Hot Springs or stay at hotel in Lake Louise. All that would carry a cost. How come Lake Louise water looks so unique compared to others in Canada?Full question:It looks so aqua like florida or the caribbean, how come all other water in canada looks so dull and unaqua? Best answer:I don't know about all the other water in Canada, but I do know that Lake Louise gets it's unique color from the direct feed of glacial melt. The old, pure ice in the glaciers surrounding it give it a very blue hue. Can I bring my dog for trip to lake Louise, Alberta?Full question:we are not staying at hotel. We just want to take our dog with us so he can have a good walk too. It will be around "Hotel lake Louise". I am not sure if that's the name of the hotel. I tried to google it but I am not sure if I got it right. wikipedia doesn't show it either. we don't plan to take our dog inside the building or close to its premise. Best answer:It's called the Chateau Lake Louise and it is beautiful; so is the lake (note - this is glacier water and very very cold, so swimming is not advised). You can have a very nice walk around the lake without checking into the hotel. You need to be aware that taking a dog with you could be a hazard to yourself and your dog if there are bears in the area. Unfortunately, there are bears and other wildlife in Banff and Jasper national parks which are habituated to humans and therefore have no fear of humans. One time, there were bears that literally went through the tent of the people camping next door to us one time. Happily, the tent was the only fatality that time; the bears (mama and 2 cubs) were trapped the next day and shipped back out into the wilderness. I strongly suggest that you talk to someone from Parks Canada (they have a regional office in Banff) to make sure that you won't be going anywhere that bears have been sighted lately. The Parks staff can also give you information about some nice hiking trails in the area. If possible, you should try hiking Johnson Canyon - one of my very favorite places in that corner of the world. Have fun! What is it like living and working at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and Fairmont Banff Springs?Full question:Which one is better? Best answer:They are both very expensive but as you probably know very beautiful too. The tourist seasons might not be so pleasant but if you have the money I'd say its worth it. Good luck. How mountainous are the roads between Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada?Full question:We are considering taking a trip there in July of 2009. Best answer:You should be able to travel up I-95 all the way, and it is a fairly smooth and well maintained area. The mountains will be all around you but I believe the roads are pretty stable there, no sharp curves and sudden rises or drops. You may notice it get a little more mountainous after passing Sandpoint on about the town of Bonner's Ferry. You have to remember that although the roads try to follow the rivers and lakes in various valleys, you are pretty much travelling through the Rockies, and so you should expect some mountainous roads that you'll have to go up or down. At least going in summer, you should not have to deal with snow and icy roads. But if you are planning on hauling a tent trailer or camper with a Toyota Corolla or Ford Focus, you will be putting quite a strain on the engine trying to get up some of the hills, and a strain on the brakes going down. Make sure that the added load and the air conditioning running full blast does not cause the car to overheat and you get stuck on a lonely road five miles outside of Canal Flats, BC !! What is the most beauty full route to travel from Vancouver to Rockie Mountain Jasper and Lake Louise?Full question:
Best answer:I have both travelled this route and spoke to people from all over the world (especially Europe) who said the highway between Jasper and Bamff is the most beautiful & breath taking they ever saw. Here is the route: 1. Depart Vancouver Eastbound on Highway #1. 2. Hope BC is a hub of 4 highways. Continue on Highway #1 up the Fraser Canyon. There is lots of scenery especially Hell's Gate. 3. At Cache Creek there is another Hub. Stay on Highway #1 and travel to Kamloops, B.C. 4. Kamloops is another Hub. Take Highway #5 North (Yellowhead highway) to Jasper. 5. Clearwater is about 150 Km North of Kamloops and there is a lot of camping and beautiful scenery. The Wells Grey National Park is near here. A good place to stop and see things. 6. Continue North on Highway #5 and you will pass through Blue River. This community is small and the hub of the best heli skiing and heli hiking in the world. During the winter everyone from Royalty to famous movie stars come here to heli ski. 7 Continue North on Highway #5 and follow the signs to Jasper. 8. When you are finished with Jasper travel South on Highway 93. This is the highway everyone says is the most beautiful in the world. It has ice fields you can stop to explore and go for a snowmobile ride. You will want to stop around every new curve to take a picture. This Highway stops (T intersection) at Highway #1 almost at Lake Louise. Go East and follow the signs to Lake Louise. 9. Once you are finished with Lake Louise, Travel East on HIghway #1 to Banff. 10. When you are finished with Banff travel West on Highway #1 back to BC. --------------------------------------------- At this point you have two ways to return to Vancouver pending on your time & money. You can go via Southern BC, or more faster and direct back on Highway #1 --------------------------------------------- Southern BC 11.Travel West from Banff and take Highway #93 to Radium. These are famous hot springs and you can have a good time here. 12. From Radium, continue South to Cranbrook. You can side step to Kimberly which is a tourist town decked out like a small German/Swiss village. 13. From Cranbrook travel West on Highway #3 to Hope. You will travel through three mountain passes and see beautiful country. Thre are mountains between Princeton and Hope that are very steep and you will see an old mountain slide (Hope Princeton Slide). 14. At Hope, you will automatically meet up with Highway #1 and continue to Vancouver. Hope is a beautiful small town in the mountains and is the location for the Selvester Stalone movie "First Blood". -------------------------------------------------------- The faster more direct Route: 11. Travel East on Highway #1 to Kamloops. 12. Take the Highway #5 (Coquihalla HIghway) exit on the West side of Kamloops and go South. 13. This will take you to Hope. You will automatically blend into Highway #3 and then a few kilometers away into Highway #1. 14. Continue on to Vancouver. ----------------------------------------------------------- Note: you can also go Highway #1 West from Banff and then at Sicamous take Highway 97A. This will take you into the Okanagan which is a high tourist spot. Hot in the summer and our fruit belt. You will travel through Armstrong, Vernon and then Kelowna. On the other side of Kelowna, you can take Highway #97 to Merritt and get on to Highway #5, go South to Hope, then Highway #1 to Vancouver. OR, Instead of taking Highway 97, continue South to Penticton, through Penticton to Highway #3, then West. See notes about about Highway #3. ------------------------------------------ Have a great holiday and enjoy Beautiful BC. Note: there is a small toll ($$) to enter the National Parks at Jasper and Banff. I'd like to get to know brazilian people who live near Lake Louise!!!?Full question:I'm planning to visit there this year and am searching further information and tips... Best answer:Its not very big there, and the brazilian community would be small if it even existed at all.. Try posting something on Craigslist. Friend getting married at 1.00pm at Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains, Canada. What time is that in the UK?Full question:I would like to send her a message beforehand, while she is getting ready. I have checked my time zone clock and there is 3 hours difference between Vancouver and Toronto. Which zone should I be looking at for Lake Louise, please? Many thanks in advance. Best answer:Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada Mountain Time Zone GMT - 7h Daylight Savings Time GMT - 6h How much does it cost (average) to eat out in Banff / Lake Louise? Thank you.?Full question:Visiting Canada in February and staying in Banff. Just wondering what an 'average' beer and meal costs? Also any recommendations greatly appreciated. If there is a nice place to eat or drink as a one off I'd like to know about that too! Thank you. Best answer:Lake Louise is beautiful. Banff is too, but it's freaking expensive. When I was there, the tour guy said it stands for "Be Aware Nothing for Free" Where should I stay? Banff? Or Lake Louise?Full question:I am planning a trip to Banff this summer from a Sunday to Thursday. Should I stay in Banff? Or Lake Louise? Also what would you recommend for just being there a few days and trying to budget? Thanks in advance to everyone! any info you have is great! Best answer:i personally would stay in banff but i would do a day trip to see lake louise (about 45 minute drive from banff) ... banff is more like a little town with lots to do (population banff is about 9000 and population lake louise is about 1000) ... and it is considerably more expensive to stay in lake louise ... if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay the banff hostel is a great deal ... it is very beautiful and you can get private rooms (not like a budget backpackers hostel) and it is cheaper than any hotel in banff ... a private suite/private bathroom or cabin suite is around 140-160 a night during the time period you want to travel ... the cheapest hotel room i was able to find in banff during high season was $188 and the place was a bit skanky ... is there anywhere between vancouver and lake louise with cheap accommodation worth seeing?Full question:my reason for asking is i am planning a trip to canada and i am in two minds as to whether to stop in kamloops, it looks like a nice place but there seems to be very little cheap accommodation and i`m not sure if its worth visiting Best answer:Alternative stops could be: Victoria, BC Jasper Takakkaw Falls Banff The cheapest accommodation rates (less than 60 USD) are as follows: KAMLOOPS: The attractions in Kamloops include: BC Wildlife Park, Centre of the Universe, BIG Little Science Centre, Harper Mountain, Steam Train Rides, Kamloops Art Gallery, Sunmore Ginseng Factory, Thriftlodge Kamloops - $51 VICTORIA: The attractions in Victoria include: whale watching, kayaking, marinas, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, Maritime Museum of BC, Pacific Undersea Gardens, Victoria Bug Zoo, Victoria Royal British Columbia Museum, Traveller's Inn City Center Victoria - $48 Howard Johnson Hotel Victoria - $49 Ramada Hotel Victoria - $54 Red Lion Inn & Suites Victoria - $57 Traveller's Inn Douglas Blanshard Victoria - $57 Blue Ridge Inn Victoria - $57 JASPER: The attractions in Jasper include: Jasper Nat. Park, hot springs, lakes (Maligne Lake, Patricia Lake, Pyramid Lake, and kettle lakes), waterfalls (Maligne Canyon Falls, Athabasca Falls) (Accommodation in Jasper is actually quite expensive and it will be hard to get much <60 USD) BANFF: The attractions in Banff include: Banff Nat. Park, Banff Natural History Museum, Upper Hot Springs, Marsh Loop, Sulphur Mountain, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Cascade Gardens (Accommodation in Banff is also quite expensive and you might have a hard time getting <60 USD) VANCOUVER: Budget Inn Patricia Hotel Vancouver - $38 Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown Vancouver - $40 Days Inn Metro Vancouver - $49 Ramada Inn & Suites Downtown Vancouver - $54 Airport Inn Hotel Vancouver - $58 Overall, you'd end up saving more by stopping at either Victoria or Vancouver for your accommodation, then just explore the attractions in the other stops as you travel to Lake Louise. That's my opinion on this... You can get more details on these accommodation spots at: http://www.tophotels4u.com/Canada/ where you can compare the prices, see other options, view the facilities and such. Flying into Banff or Lake Louise - any charters or airplanes at all?Full question:I know Calgary is the closest major airport but I want to fly directly into Banff or Lake Louise - does anyone have any leads? Thanks! Best answer:Well, unfortunetly there are no airports inbetween Calgary and Banff, unless you were to charter your own plane. Dont fret, Banff is only 1 1/2 hours away and Lake Louise is about 2 hrs drive. There are busses that will take you from the Calgary airport straight to the mountains. Another option is a privatized airport out of SpringBank, but that will only cut your driving voyage down by about 20 minutes. what is the driving time from Calgary to Lake louise and can I take bus there?Full question:
Best answer:As others have said, the driving time from Calgary to Lake Louise is 2.5 to 3 hours and it is a very scenic and easy drive to make on the TransCanada Highway. Another option for the bus (besides Greyhound) is Sundog Tours - they offer a daily shuttle www.sundogtours.com Not sure if you just want to go for the day, or stay a few days. If you just want to go for the day, there are also companies that offer a day long tour from Calgary to Lake Louise. Check out Travel Alberta's website www.travelalberta.com for more information. Better spot to work/party Banff or Lake Louise?Full question:Me and 5 friends are planning on taking 6months to a year off and move out west to work and party before going to university, we orginally thought of whistler but seeing its drinking age is 19 and some of us will only be 18 we have narrowed it down to Banff and Lake louise, any personal experience on working, partying, housing ect.. is really really helpful thanks Best answer:Jobs are very hard to come by, wages are low, housing is extremely expensive and jobs are seasonal as well. There isnt six months of winter, The cost of living is very high compared to other areas in the country and has risen dramatically in the last 2 years. Easily over $800 a month for a studio apartment You will need to bring enough money to live on for at least one month, maybe longer while you hunt for jobs. $2000 for one month should be sufficient if you dont blow it on partying and drinking. partying and drinking can and will cost you your job, both Banff and Lake Louise are VERY small towns and you represent the business you work for. Quote: It is imperative that newcomers take the necessary steps to protect their good names, their reputations and ultimately their jobs. Newcomers should have the good sense that helps them avoid liability. Drugs and alcohol are bad news and will usually get you into trouble. Everyone in Banff has a hard enough time paying for rent and food. Drugs and alcohol are big expenses. In order for a people to support these habits they are often led to committing crimes. End Quote No parties or noise allowed after 10 PM at night or it will net you a $250 fine for the first offense. Wages start at $11 an hour or lower. Minimum wage is $7 an hour Thinking you are going to party, ski and live the good life on $7 an hour? Think again these resort areas have had a lot of experience with people who come there just to party and they dont stay long. The ones who do are the people there to take advantage of the nature and outdoor adventures, not the party animals In february, how cold does it get on the summit of Lake Louise, Banff ?Full question:Because I am going to go skiing there in february. It can be for Sunshine or other mountains around that area.. It would be a great help ! Best answer:Since it still is winter, the summits of our Rockies can be bitterly cold , well into the minus20C's, colder with the wind chill but it can also be a beautiful sunny day anywhere near or above 0C as well. I've been in both places that time of year in very differing weather. Enjoy the chalets and ski lodges when it is too nasty is all. Great area and the Okanagan "Big White Resort" near Kelowna is only a 5-6 hour drive away. Have a great stay. Has anyone married at lake louise ice castle in canada?Full question:I was wondering what type of cost and what the place is like?? Is it a good place to get married? The scenery looks amazing. Best answer:No I haven't been married there, but our family went there just visiting, and it is amazingly beautiful! You can't go wrong at that place! Skiing/Snowboarding in Sunshine Village or Lake Louise?Full question:I have been to both and I definitely liked Sunshine Village better. But I have only gone to Lake Louise once so I could be misjudging it. Which do you like better and why? Thanks XD Oh and don't say, "well this place is better than both"....if you don't have anything to say about which out of the TWO you like better, than don't answer my question. Best answer:I have been to both, and agree that I like Sunshine better, because I know the hill, and I like the different areas - especially off the Continental/ Angel chairs. I always have a good time there. That said, I do really like the length of the runs at Louise, I think there are more long ones than at Sunshine - as I am not the greatest fan of chairlifts, this is a real bonus for me. I don't dislike this hill though, and I hope to get at least one day there this season. Who was Lake Louise in Canada named after?Full question:Thank you both. Best answer:Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. In addtion to Lake Louise being named after her, the town of Caroline, Alberta and the province of Alberta were named after her. Has anyone anything to say on skiing in Banff / Lake Louise...good or bad and tips on accomadations ect.?Full question:My family and i were going to go....so any eating suggestions or family friendly tips would be great.... Best answer:For a skiing vacation, it is generally better to stay in Banff or Canmore. Banff is the more well-known location, but Canmore has more affordable options. There are loads of restaurants in both Banff/Canmore. If you want to take sandwiches to the hill, try Evelyn's Cafe or the Wildflower Cafe in Banff; Bella Crusta in Canmore. FOr a nice dinner, our favourite restaurants are Castello (at the Banff Springs Hotel) or Giorgio's (downtown Banff). In Canmore, our favourite fine dining restaurant is Treo. If you are traveling with your family and are staying for more than 3 days, it is more affordable to rent a vacation rental. It will have more room, a kitchen, and nicer amenities than a hotel (no 'front desk' though). You can check out these sites to find a place to stay: www.ownerdirect.com www.vrbo.com www.vacationrentals.com What are the downsides of moving to Lake Louise?Full question:
Best answer:jobs (unless you work in the hotel), expensive It is a great place to visit but living in the park is not easy Is there a source to determine movies (Canadian or foreign) with scenes filmed at Chateau Lake Louise?Full question:Chateau Lake Louise http://www.fairmont.com/lakelouise/ Best answer:Phone them and see if the guy behind the desk knows. If he doesn't email the manager and ask. Can a trip to Lake Louise in Canada keep my two older teenage boys interested?Full question:
Best answer:Lake Louise has lots of wilderness type activities so if they are outdoor types and like hiking, canoeing, etc. there should be no problem. If they like skiing then a winter trip will keep them happy. Powered by Yahoo!
