I am taking Topographical Drafting and our project is to make a model of a mountain or lake. We are to show contour lines with the model. But we only went over contour lines briefly so I know what they are but Im not sure what words I should use to search with.

I don't know what you're searching. But you can search under topographical contour lines. If you want to know how to portray a mountain or a lake with contour lines, I can help there. The contour lines would be roughly circular, or whatever shape the rise or the depression is. The lines would follow the shape of the land. The lines would be one inside the other, each with the shape of the land at that elevation. The lines would be closer together for a sharp rise or descent, and farther apart for a more gradual rise or descent. You can figure this because the ratio of the rise to the run is much steeper. E.g., a mountain that rises 1,000 meters over an inward distance of, say, 100 meters, has a much sharper rise than one that rises 1,000 meters over a 500 meter distance.

Mammoth Mountain is the name of the Resort, but Mammoth Lakes is the name of the town. It's a bit confusing, but there is only one resort named Mammoth in Mammoth, so you're not going to get it wrong. It has several base areas, but they are all inter-connected. June Mountain is also up near there, but I don't think your mixing those up. June is also a fun mountain to ride at though. I would recommend to use Public transportation; it makes the experience much better. You could go to Nyon (go to Cornavin and take the trains in Platforms 4 and 6) and from there you could take a boat to Yvoire. From Nyon you can also take a train to St. Cergue. During the winter it is a skying station. You could also go visit small villages in the "Swiss Riviera" (I know, it is ridiculous to call it that. I cannot help laughing when others do). Rolle, Lausanne and Montreux (you could go visit the Château de Chillon) are quite nice. I think the best thing to do is to go to the CFF tourism office and ask them to help you. Too bad that you are coming in July, I would be pleased to give you a tour around Geneva but sadly I will not be here during the summer.

I think you're describing the whole state though the mountains are more in the middle of the state. As it happens The Forks and West Forks are hamlets that almost meet your criteria but are in the middle of the state. Try Jackman, Eagle Lake or Canton if you want the colour of the Sugarloaf Mountain ski area.

It really depends on the lake, but yes! Not all of the fish will be in deeper water- early and late the fish tend to be closer to shore. Anywhere there are weedbeds or flooded trees are good. inlet and outlet streams and the area of the lake where these are usually are good, the inlet being best- brings freshly oxygenated cool water and food in. if you can, try a float tube to get out on the lake. good luck.

We've been driving it for the 18 years I've lived in CA and haven't encountered that. We have been stopped, had our vehicle inspected to see that we had 4 wheel drive and had the chains mandatory waived. People who did not have chains or 4 wheel drive were turned back, however. The road was cautiously drivable, but we would not have attempted it without being able to go into 4 wheel drive low. 18 gets a lot of black ice and can be tretcherous, but we've not encountered it being closed.
