He was an outspoken critic of the "Family Compact", an upper-class clique which dominated the government of Upper Canada. In the wake of his electoral defeat, Mackenzie founded a new newspaper, the Constitution, which symbolically had its first issue printed on July 4, 1836. In the pages of the Constitution, Mackenzie began advocating constitutional change for Upper Canada. He now believed that all of the colony's minor grievances could only be rectified through wholesale constitutional reform. Mackenzie approached John Rolph and Thomas David Morrison with false information that people outside Toronto were prepared to march on the city to organize a revolt. He also produced a letter from Thomas Storrow Brown of Montreal which falsely claimed that the Reformers in Lower Canada were about to rise. Rolph and Morrison were still not entirely convinced and asked Mackenzie to canvass opinion north of the city. Instead, Mackenzie called a meeting of Reform leaders outside the city and convinced them that, together with support from Rolph, Morrison, and some disaffected members of the Family Compact, they would be able to take control of the government. He then returned to Toronto and informed Rolph and Morrison that the revolt would begin on December 7. I live in the Yukon and no the prices don't go up because first thing, the trucks don't cross the Yukon River and if they do it's over the bridges that we have. And Ferries don't run in the rivers only oceans so we don't have to worry about that. There is more than one route into these places, well there is at least one major highway and it doesn't cross any bodies of water except on the bridges.

King's great contribution in the 1920s was to made Canada more independent from Great Britain. "King insisted on Canadian autonomy in relations with the UK and contributed to the definition of Dominion status at the 1926 Imperial Conference." Specifically, he championed legislation to the effect that if England went to war, Canada would not automatically be involved in the war (as is had in World War 1) but the Canadian Parliament would have to make and independent decision whether to go to war or not -- as in World War Two. King was an extremely skillful politician and he was able to deal with the many divisions in the country very skillfully. I'm one of the few people that freaks out if ANY masculine name is used on a girl, even if the general consensus is that it is a unisex name (Jordan, Taylor) or a modern feminine name (Ashley, Mackenzie). I hate the boy-names-on-girls trend and I won't hold back if someone asks a question about it on here. Boy names are for boys, and girl names are for girls. It really is as simple as that. P.S. However, despite being an ardent republican, I'm divided on whether eliminating the monarchy or close connection to Britain at that early stage would have been a good or bad thing in other areas. Certainly the republican system is superior from the perspective of individual rights. I'm sure a Charter of Rights and Freedoms would have been legislated far earlier, possibly in the 1800's rather than 1982 - meaning our society would have developed along a much more egalitarian model sooner. Retention of a colonial link to Britain post-independence has also curtailed the development of a Canadian psyche or identity. On the other hand, Canada definitely benefited from Britain's clout during border negotiations, meaning a Canadian republic might be a smaller nation geographically today. Plus, a Canadian republic may not have automatically entered World War I, if at all, saving 60,000 Canadian lives. It's an interesting question.

I am a huge fan of the saga, so with any casting, I have very strong opinions. First, I didn't think a human could play Renesmee. Sure, there are lots of beautiful girls out there, but I couldn't imagine one of them being so serious and focused at such a young age. When Mackenzie was first cast, I was a little worried. I hadn't seen a photo of her at that point, and thought she might have been a little too old. When I saw a picture, I knew her face would be so perfect. I couldn't imagine another face fitting the role. I was still worried about her age, but now that I knew lots of GCI technology will be used to make her look like she is a growing baby I am sure she will do a great job. I have heard her in interviews, and she sounds very mature, perfect for Renesmee! At the end of Breaking Dawn, Renesmee is meant to look about 2-3, and according to leaked stills, Mackenzie plays Renesmee's body by the end of the film. I do hope that Renesmee doesn't look too old by the end of the film, but the director knows how important it is to get Renesmee right, and I am sure he will do her justice.

It's very disturbing and sad. Using drugs really can take people to some very deep and dark places because having sex with one's father is perverted. It's one thing if John Phillips molested her when she was 5 or 10...a child has no voice...and is totally innocent of the adult sexual abuse. But in this case she was an adult. Though he raped her the first time, she could have put a stop to it, and not continued for 10 yrs. after that. Her drug abuse really clouded her thinking and made her do things that she wouldn't have done otherwise. Low self-esteem probably kept her in that downward spiral. Using drugs can really take people to some very deep and dark places because having sex with one's father is perverted. The AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) program says that alcohol (same can be said of drugs) is Cunning, Baffling and Powerful, and in the Phillips family case it definitely was all 3. Their consensual incestuous relationship would explain why MacKenzie would continue to have problems with drugs and arrests for many years. Goes to show that people can be gifted artistically or musically but yet not have a gift of sanity. And this sexual relationship was insane. Not sure if MacKenzie is free from drugs today. Hope she does go to 12step mtngs., has a good sponsor and maybe eventually she'll find some healing and peace in her life.
