I live there, and when you are in the main part of the town there is no danger. However, when you go on hikes or go up towards the Douglas Fir, and on any trails it can be dangerous. You just have to smart and don't leave food around, and have a bear bell on you. I have went on many hikes and have only seen elk an deer. And this IS Bear Country. The streets are named after animals because we are a National Park and the job of the Park is to protect animals.
