I lived in Oliver, and we always figured on 6 hours to Vancouver, so maybe 5 - 5.5 from Burnaby to Penticton. There are a couple of ways - up the 401 to Hope, and then the Coquahalla, taking the spur to Kelowna and then south on 97, or stay on highway 3 (the Crowsnest) to Keremeos and up to Kaleden. Turn north on 97 to Penticton. Google says the first one, which is 407km, and 4hrs 12 min driving. Only if you drive like a maniac! Figure on 5 hours.

you have two choices of routes both have millions of picture opps. Hwy#3 is the more picturesque but much longer route. a few small quaint towns on the way. Osoyoos, Grand Forks, Hot springs in Radium and once you hit Alberta side try to see "Head smashed in buffalo jump" on way up to Calgary./ If going up #97 to Hwy#1; (faster and better twinned hwy most of way) the salmon arm area is nice and be sure to visit Banff townsite on your way thru to calgary. I will be leaving from Langley, BC and travelling to Penticton. I was wondering which highway is faster to Penticton, the Coq, or the Hope - Princeton?

Probably the Coq as far as Merritt then east on the connecter then south on 97. The Hope-Princeton is a prettier drive though and not too much longer. I've done both ways and like the southern route better. (No toll booth either).

Your pickup is rated at somewhere around 1/2 ton (1000-1200 lbs usually.) Putting double the weight in is putting more weight on the tires and suspension and more strain than the design should have on the engine and trans. You might get away with it, but I wouldn't want to buy the truck when you were through with it. To haul that much, you might look at a 1 ton trailer, helper springs under the rear of the pickup and the appropriate hitch assembly mounted to the frame of the truck. (an electric brake module under the dash that ties to the trailer's braking system is pretty much a must have with that kind of weight vs such a lightweight truck. If not used, when you try to stop with only the truck's brakes, the trailer is going to push you.) Then put 500 lbs of load into the truck's bed (to keep the truck heavier than the load for driving stability) and the rest in the trailer. I assume the B2300 is a 4 cylinder engine which will be working hard to pull the load. It can be done without any damage to the truck as long as you heed the words "slowly and gently". The alternative is to make 2 trips!

Penticton is gorgeous in the summer although very hot. Okanagan University has a campus in Penticton. Housing costs are high and jobs there don't reflect the cost of living as there are many retired people who keep homes there. Kelowna would be a better fit for a young energetic 18 year old with a few more opportunities.

Me and my friends are taking a trip to Penticton from Vancouver, so far we only have 2 options, people with their "N's" can drive with one other person in their car but there are only about three who can do that and otherwise with greyhound which is a little costly, I was wondering if anyone could come up with any other options?

Put a post on craigslist for ride-share. Either you can find someone who wants to go, who has their license, and can drive all of you. Or you can all just get a ride with someone else off there who is going. I know about 20 people myself who head there every year from Vancouver, who would never mind taking other people with them. And I dont know a lot of people there, so Im sure there are plenty of people willing to take some people for a little gas money!

I have no clue where Penticton is, but it depends on the rarity of the breed of Leopard gecko you get. Normals can range from $25-$50 where i live, but when you get into rarer colors and morphs, you can tackel anywere from $75-$1500 just for the gecko. Of course you need to factor in the cost of the tank (20 gallon Long) minimum size, 2 heat lamps, day time and night time, REPTILE CARPET FLOORING! do not use sand untill you become very knowledgable. Also a steady supply of crickets or mealworms should be found from a supplier like Fluckers, or a local pet store. I think both cities each have their own merits and are beautiful in their own right. They share the beauty of the Okanagan Valley and are approximately a 45 minute drive apart. I think the vista of the mountains and lake while crossing the bridge into Kelowna is breathtaking. Looking up the Okanagan Lake from Penticton's north shoreline is very scenic as well! Sorry I couldn't say one over the other... I just enjoy both for different reasons!

It's a pretty tiny area. All you'll have to do is go there and drive and/or walk around a bit and you'll see everything there is to do without half an hour. Which isn't much. Tubing on the river maybe... being really hot. and they do have a tourist info place where you can find it all in once place.

It should take about 4 hours, however in reality it could take up to 6 or more given the traffic problems once you pass through Abbotsford. There are almost always accidents on the freeways, back ups, heavy traffic once you head towards White Rock -- if you are on any kind of deadline allow for at least 5 1/2 hours - And if you hit rush hour, anytime between about 4 PM and 7 PM it could take 4 hours just to get from Abbotsford to White Rock. A few weeks ago it took us 25 minutes just to get across the Port Mann bridge, from one end to the other -- you wont be going that way, but just to give you an idea of what you could be up against

I have many friends living in Penticton and Summerland. They moved 3 - 4 years ago from Vancouver and never wanted to return again. I go there every summer and never heard anyone of them complaining about anything. People are very friendly. The crime rate in Penticton is almost next to none. You might need a house alarm just for safety precautions. There are a lot of retired people living in Summerland. Casual life style, no smog at all, considered a "fun" place to live, active lifestyle, healthier people. I wouldn't say cosmopolitan area but not that hickish either. When it is hot in summer it goes up to high the 40's, wineries, orchards, tons of lakes, lots of summer fun, sandy beaches, beautiful scenery. Skiing in winter, mountain biking, camping in summer. Good restaurants and pubs and ice-cream shops
