Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to Perisher... Snow Skiing QuestionsThe following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category: Where to go in Perisher and will there be enough snow to Ski?Full question:We are going to the snow in September 6th and 7th and have never been. Will there be enough snow left and what hills should we hit in perisher (what slopes). We are staing at The Station. Best answer:The Station is just outside Jindabyne, about 30 minutes' drive from Perisher (or you can use the Skitube). There will almost certainly be snow. Historically the deepest cover is usually in the first week in September, although the quality is not the best. As you are beginners this will not affect you much. If you are beginners you should have lessons. That means skiing at Smiggins or on the Front Valley of Perisher. There are things called magic carpets in dedicated beginner areas. They make getting up the hill much easier. I think Smiggins is the better area of the two as the progression from magic carpets to other lifts is more gentle, and the area is less crowded. Have a look here http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Perisher And some general advice here http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Category:New_to_the_Snow What's the best way to get from Jindabyne to Bullock's Flat/Perisher solo?Full question:Ski Snowboard Perisher Jinadyne. Want to get there for a weekend. Best answer:Perisher Blue 2008 winter season? Anyone been down there and checked the snow levels?Full question:We are going to Perisher in a week and I was wondering what the snow levels are like? Can anyone give me a person like reccomendation on what skiing is like this year and which runs are good etc etc. Also is it expected to snow in the next week or two? Thanks. Best answer:It's horrible. Live cams here http://ski.com.au/snowcams/australia/nsw/perisherblue/index.html We're going to Perisher for 5 days of skiing. What will we need to pack?Full question:Will our clothes be able to dry out or will we need to take quite a few sets? And, how many layers of clothing will we need to be wear while actually skiing? I remember being quite sweaty last time and having to take the layers off. Best answer:What are the facilities where you are staying? What are the temperatures at the resort? When I do a trip of more than 3 days, I plan to do a set of laundry, Typical is I pack 3 days worth. My outer layers need 2 days to drip dry so I try to keep from getting too wet. I always wear multiple thin layers so I can adjust my temperature easily. I put a thin shirt, then a long sleeve shirt and a sweater, also a vest and a jacket if it is cold. By cold I mean -10 C or more. Trying to stay comfortable means layers and the ability to adjust your clothing. BTW where is Perisher? Also take dancing shoes and a robe to go to the pool. People who have been to Perisher Blue Australian Ski Resort? Question about 2007 ski season?Full question:Hi Guys I'm going to perisher blue for a week of skiing, from the 1st-7th of July. I've been looking at the snow cams/lift reports etc on the website, and so far only Front Valley is open for use. I'm just looking for any insight/comments on the liklihood of other slopes being opened before the 1st of July, from anyone who knows anything about snow conditions, or has had some experience with perisher. Thanks a lot! I've been skiing at Perisher once before, but it was at the end of the ski season in September, so I'm unfamiliar with conditions this early in the year. Best answer:PB opens what they can. You still have two weeks. There is a dump happening As I Type, that will open more terrain and it is likely that there is more to come. I believe that Blue Cow will open this weekend. Even if it is only on snowmaking areas, that gives you Zalis and the main run off Ridge Chair. The week you have chosen is in school holidays, and the resort will bend over backwards to get as much as possible open before then. I have been down there at that time and had the whole resort open (but the same week last year was seriously, seriously crap). Is the snow still any good at Falls Creek or Perisher in the 'Value' season (after September 13)?Full question:I guess it varies from year to year but in your experience is it worth it to go in Spring to get the cheaper tickets and accommodation? Best answer:As you say, it depends on the year. In most years there will be snow during that week. In fact, historically, the deepest snow is usually in the first week of September. Perisher is higher, and it will hold snow better than Falls Creek. Snowy Hydro have a snow depth thingy that lets you have a look at historic depths. http://www.snowyhydro.com.au/snowDepth.asp?pageID=46&parentID=6 The data for Spencers Creek is closest to Perisher. Whatever the snow depth you will have spring conditions, which means ice in the morning turning to slush by the afternoon. On the other hand, the sun will be out and it will be warm. I have had a lot of fun in Perisher in September. If you accept the facts of life and do not expect fresh powder every day it is a relaxing time to ski. Perisher Blue Ski Resort Australia Early Season -- Opinions on Snow Quality?Full question:Hi everyone I've recently booked a holiday to Perisher Blue ski resort, starting on the 1st July, and though I know the ski season there started abouyt a month ago, I have no idea of snow quality. Anyone care to give opinions/predictions? Just so I might know to expect decent snow by then, or muddy/slushy overused runs. Thanks! Best answer:It depends on early snowfall. There have been a few early falls, although from the snowcams ( http://www.ski.com.au/snowcams/nsw.html ) it does not look enough to ski on yet. They will make snow. Perisher snowmaking is concentrated on beginner and intermediate runs. If that is you, there will be snow to ski on. If you are after expert slopes that early is a bit of a lottery (although there are still a few weeks to go.) So far, this is a better than average start. And the season has not started yet. Perisher or Thredbo? - winter season - which one is better?Full question:Hi guys First time going to Australian Snow Mountaints, please suggest which one is better? Best answer:They each have their advantages and disadvantages. Perisher is higher, and has more reliable snow in marginal seasons Thredbo has more vertical, and better advanced runs if there is a good snow cover. Perisher is more spread out, and takes a bit of local knowledge to get around efficiently. Thredbo Village is more compact and has better nightlife. Perisher is probably less intimidating for beginners. Perisher has more surface lifts which are harder to ride (particularly for boarders) http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Perisher_Blue http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Thredbo http://www.ski.com.au What would You prefer Thredbo or Perisher?Full question:
Best answer:It depends on the year, and what you want. In a good year Thredbo has better and longer runs, but in a bad year Perisher, having a higher base is better. Perisher has more lifts and a bigger area but its runs are much shorter. Thredbo wins hands down for nightlife. Thredbo or Perisher - Australia's best Ski resorts?Full question:Best ski mountain (AVERAGE BEST SNOW CONDITIONS) Best answer:Perisher's base is higher, so will have better quality snow for the length of its runs. Thredbo has good snow up high, but the vertical drop means that the bottom can be low quality or completely man made. Thredbo has longer runs. Perisher has more runs. Both resorts have their advantages and disadvantages. Skiing at Perisher Blue?Full question:how much does it cost a day to get a private lesson at perisher blue for a 16 year old? thanks Best answer:AU$591 Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: What should I expect at an interview for a snow season job at Perisher?Full question:I have an interview this Saturday for a job in Perisher for the season. My mate and I were wondering what sort of things to expect? What to say, what not to say etc. Any particular things they want you to know? All that general stuff. Thanks Best answer:places could be different but the interview i had to get a job was a total joke, it was only about 5 mins long and was just a supervisor asking me questions that were already on the application. getting a job at a resort is not that difficult, i don't know what your applying for but its a good idea to just get in somewhere your first year and then transfer somewhere else. There are a lot more lifties and instructors than snowmakers and cat operators, but if you start somewhere you can transfer eventually just be honest at your interview, be nice and polite to the guy your interviewing with, and as long as you put on your application that you are available to work on a regular basis i don't see why you wouldn't get a job. If you only plan on working for part of the season or are only gonna work for 1 year it would be good to not say that as they want people that will be dependable and plan on staying for a while Is working in Perisher ski resort good?Full question:I've applied as a lifty at perisher, just wondering if anyone has done this before... And if they enjoyed there time there. Do you get much time to ride still, working as a lift operator? Best answer:where i worked as a lift operator in NY the mountain gave me a free season pass and a ton of discounts for passes i could give to my friends and family. the pay was not too bad and i still got a lot of time to ride. What is the water perisher in a 4 inch pipe that is five feet tall?Full question:This is a plumbing question. Plumbers use a 4" pipe, that is 5' tall, and capped off to check the wast water lines before hooking up to the surer lines on new buildings. I know it has to hold for at least five days without any drop in the psi before it can pass inspection, in Washington State. I think that it is 5 pis, but I can't remember. Best answer:The gage pressure of a five foot water column is 2.2 psig. The drain pipe testing would have to be done before any sinks, tubs, toilets are connected because pressure testing would blow out the P-trap seals. The test would be needed for drains installed below the ground floor slab and before the slab is poured. The test pressure of 5 psig seems a bit low, but it is well above any pressure the single floor plumbing drain system will experience in service. where is threadbough and perisher blue situated?Full question:i need to know for a school assignment-where is perisher blue and threabough?like what region?thanx guyzz! Best answer:This map shows where Thredbo is http://www.thredbo.com.au/about-thredbo/getting-to-thredbo/ and this map shows where Perisher is http://www.perisher.com.au/winter/transport/index.html Both are in the Snowy mountains in the SE of NSW. How do I get from Sydney Central station to Perisher?Full question:I can't drive. I've looked up greyhound, but they only go to Jindabyne, which would mean booking a return greyhound there, then another bus to the ski tube, then the ski tube, which all comes to $380 bloody dollars! How do I get there? Is there a train? Best answer:Only what you have found - there are no trains to Perisher only buses. What happens to Thredbo/Perisher in Summer when there is no snow left?Full question:I was also wondering what happens to the job stability of the Ski/Snow boarding Instructors at ski resorts? Best answer:Those areas are then part of bushwalking e.t.c for the Alpine Summer. The ski resorts are still operating as summer resorts for the summer season (of course at a reduced capacity and cost), which though not as huge as winter still has wonderful elements. Going in the spring (post melt) and summer reveals some wonderful alpine wildflowers and bush trails. You'll find many of the ski instructors return to their summer jobs or head overseas for the northern winter ski seasons. Car trip from Wollongong to Perisher NSW Australia?Full question:We were planning to going to Perisher Blue next year. Would any of you know how many hours the car trip to Perisher Blue from Wollongong would take. NSW Australia btw. Is it very far? Thanks Best answer:Wollongong to Perisher is a little over 400km with freeway as far as Canberra then good roads all the way. The road has lots of bends from Cooma onwards as you near the mountains which will slow you down a bit. Allow 5-6 hours for the trip including a stop for food and fuel. I presume you will be parking at the Skitube rather than driving all the way to Perisher but even so make sure your car has anti-freeze in the radiator and that you carry snow chains. I need to see a Doctor for my high blood perisher and diabetes.?Full question:I have no income at this time.My brother told me to go to a IHC Hospital and they would except me with out being abel to pay. Will this work? Or is he blowing smock up my @ss? You all got me thinking what IHC stands for,and I relished it is a in state abbreviation for Inter Mountain Health Care. Best answer:I am not sure what an IHC Hospital is, but Municipal hospitals in your town have to treat patients without resources. You could also apply for Medicaid if you qualify financially. Lastly there are free clinics and there might be one where you live. Lots of Luck, feel better. how long does it take to drive to Perisher Blue ski resort from melbourne?Full question:any one know? Best answer:Around seven hours from Melbourne.#### http://www.perisherblue.com.au/winter/transport/index.html I have a F 250 5.8 lt. I putting in a new oil perisher gage what is the proper oil perisher for this truck?Full question:oil perisher is fluctuating (never goes to 0 and holds steady but changes from start to start) may be wiring in stock gage replacing with a numbered gage what is the normal oil perisher in psi? Best answer:your 351w would be very happy with anything over 40psi and steady Which is better perisher blue or Thredbo NSW australia?Full question:im wondering what would be better, im going on a weekend holiday (only 2 or 3 nights) & havent been skiing since i was 7. We want to do a bit of snowboarding & skiing & not sure what would be better this time of year (going in early july). Both beginners. Best answer:There are so many variables. You will have fun at both, particularly if you are beginners or low intermediates. The one place where Thredbo blitzes Perisher is nightlife (if that is important). Thredbo is a compact village. Perisher is spread out. Is it possible to live at coomba/perisher blue in australia? 10 POINTS?Full question:I really want to move to the snow when I'm 21 and if you can live there is it expensive? and is there phone reception out there etc? Best answer:Cooma is the gateway to the NSW snowfields, but you won't see any snow in Cooma itself. Cooma is a thriving country town and you can live there permanently. You can also live at Adaminaby, also close to the snowfields, and at Thredbo which is one of the snow resorts. Jindabyne, close to Perisher Blue is also a good town to live in, but Perisher Blue itself is, I understand, only open in winter and exists only for the snow season. This might surprise you, but all modern facilities are available in the snowfields and the towns that surround them. You do realise that the snow season runs from June to September/October, and that there is very little, if any, snow outside the winter season. And, why do you want to wait until you're 21? what is the best way to get to the ski mountain perisher blue in sydney, from melbourne?Full question:
Best answer:Driving, I would drive to Albury, then Corryong and Khancoban over the Alpine Way to Thredbo then down to the SkiTube that will take you to Perisher. Carrying (and sometimes fitting) snow chains is compulsory across Dead Horse Gap. Flying, fly to Canberra and catch a bus. Train - forget it. http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Perisher#Getting_there Any suggestions on a descent place but with a budget price of course, to stay near perisher blue, NSW?Full question:Going on the 13th and 14th sept. Havent been there b4, so im just trying to get insights from those who has been there lately..tks in adv.. Best answer:i'd suggest somewhere in jindabyne. its the last little town before the snow and has many motels and cheap bnb's. most wood have websites to look on. heres one i found: http://www.wotif.com/search/Advanced?country=1®ion=20&destination=1312&stlcmpid=16484 hope that helps have a gr8 time! Does anyone know the name of the song in the new Perisher Blue ad?Full question:i dont know the words to it, but i know that it keeps saying 'fearless' in it. if you know it please let me know coz its killing me not knowing hehe thanks in advance :) Best answer:I did a little research and found out that it's a new song by a previously little known artist, Hani Ramzi Malik and his band H.R. King and the song is called Fearless. The band's myspace is here http://www.myspace.com/hrkingaustralia and you can hear the song in full on their music player. :-) EDIT: the official website: http://www.hrking.com.au/ you can buy the song on iTunes When does the snow season end in Perisher in Australia?Full question:
Best answer:In a bad year - when the snow runs out which can be mid-September. In a good year the lifts close around the beginning of October. In an exceptional year - in 1981 I was skiing Perisher on the third weekend in October and the Eyre lift was running in a trench about 2 metres deep, and you could have got quite a few turns in at the top of Thredbo in January. This year it depends on what will fall in the next couple of weeks but they will be lucky to get much skiing in October. Going snowboarding, which one is better: Perisher or Thredbo?Full question:Going as a big group, mostly seasoned boarders from overseas, some newbies, and also 1 or 2 who just want to see snow and the surrounding area. Most probably going on a weekend. Also, my second question is any recommended snow tours (Ozsnow, Mojosnow, etc)? THANKS HEAPS! Best answer:At Perisher Blue, beginners lessons must be taken at either Smiggins or Blue Cow for the duration of the ticket This is the best bet! Planning on going for a snowboarding trip next weekend (13 and 14th Sept) at Perisher Blue, NSW..Too late?Full question:Is this too late? Will there still be enough snow to snowboard? Best answer:Snow is expected during the week of 3-10 September 2008 , but expect this to be the last. Generally the spring melt has been early in the last 6 years , although this has been the best season for 20 years. lot's of perisher in my but and cervix?Full question:I am just over 6 month's pr ego and the last month I have been having lot's of perisher down there and in my lower back and hip's I can't have sex because it hurts to bad feels like it's going in the wrong hole I feel bad for my husband but I just can't could it be I am in labour so soon Best answer:Powered by Yahoo!
