Both parties largely ignored the Métis of the Red River, a French-speaking community of part Indian descent. Led by Louis Riel, they established a provisional government in December 1869. An expeditionary force, commanded by Garnet Wolseley, reached the settlement in August 1870, after Riel had escaped. The Red River became the province of Manitoba in 1870. Riel was hanged in 1885 after leading a second western rebellion. What is the average discharge in m3/second of the Mississippi River where the Red River joins the Mississippi?Full question:What is the average discharge in m3/second of the Mississippi River where the Red River joins the Mississippi River? Best answer:There are 2 Red Rivers of any size that get relatively near the Mississippi. The Red River of the North flows northward to Lake Winnepeg, and creates the border between part of S Dakota and all of N Dakota and Minnesota. It gets within maybe 100 miles of the Mississippi near it's head waters in Lake Itaska. The Red River of the South is the southern border between Texas and Oklahoma, and then meanders thru Louisiana, eventually and after a fashion, joining with the waters of the Mississippi and the gulf (thru the Atchafalaya River). There are 3 "major" points at which some channels flow into the Mississippi near the small town of Ft Adams, and a 4th channel a bit further south (but that channel is also called the Lower Old River), and in that part of the Mississippi there are a lot of other seeps, flows, and waters that also enter, so how does one say where precisely the Red joins the Mississippi? Does anyone know? Best answer:April showers bring... If Spring comes early, the snow melts too quickly, and the still frozen ground underneath can't absorb any of it, so it just runs off all at once. The river is still frozen up north, blocking the flow, which is slow anyway, so the water has no where to go except up. When the Red River starts flooding in January, you'll know global warming is for real. I do how ever want to caution you that rock climbing is a serious activity and requires knowledge along with commonsense. What direction does the Red River flow?Full question:About this flood. Right now the Red River is cresting in Fargo and in the Minnesota suburbs across the river. To the north, folks in Manitoba, Ca are furiously trying to melt ice out of their culverts, lay down tubes for levees etc because they fear this same river will be cresting by the weekend. My question is: why would it crest LATER in areas to the north? I'm puzzled. Best answer:Actually, the first poster is wrong. The Red River flows from south to north and drains into Lake Winnipeg. Once you get far enough north, rivers tend to do that. It's the path of least resistance. Flowing south would be like going uphill. And that is why Canada is worried. Because they haven't crested yet, and saw what happened in Fargo/Moorhead. The river also has more time to pick up additional water on it's way. Especially with the rain/sleet/snow we're getting today. Can you say Red River Rivalry three times in a row without?Full question:thinking it's really the Red River Shootout? Both heroines were smart and capable and I loved seeing them grow as characters as well as seeing how the romances progress. I really love the whole concept of going back in time. I don't mind where they go really, but I just love that element in a plot. Red River was my more favorite of the 2, so anything really similar to that would be awesome. Again also anything like From Far Away. Thanks! :D Best answer:I suggest: Reimei no Arcana-- (incomplete) A girl has the supernatural ability to see the future, I believe. Bride of the Water God-- (incomplete) A girl is sent to marry the water god, as the title implies. It seems to be a fairly good story. Crazy Girl Shin Bia-- A violent girl is sent back in time to replace a prophetess who died. It's a Hwang Mi Ri story, but actually quite good. Shinobi Life-- Also going back in time :) This girl meets her lookalike's bodyguard, and they fall in love with each other... etc. Chrono Crusades-- One of the BEST manga I have ever read... A girl and her demon friend are on a quest to look for the girl's brother who... Telling you would ruin this amazing action story @___@ The girl is a nun who kills demons and the like, so it's REALLY interesting. I strongly recommend this story (: Dumb assignment question: The mean annual peak flow of the Red River since 1892?Full question:I'm doing a type of quiz, and the assignment asks this question: The mean annual peak flow of the Red River is ~1300 cubic metres per second. Since 1892 the annual peak flow of the Red River has exceeded 2000 cubic metres per second _____ times, with the maximum annual peak flow of ~4600 cubic metres per second occurring during the flooding in the spring of 1997. First, does anyone know this? It isn't in the book. Two, how ridiculous is that question? Best answer:it's c. 13 although when I googled it the answer was 11, but it was the only closest answer. good luck "The Red River flows northward from the United States into southern Manitoba. Best answer:the Red River Rebellion are the events surrounding the actions of a provisional government established by Métis leader Louis Riel in 1869 at the Red River Settlement in what is now the Canadian province of Manitoba. the Rebellion was the first crisis the new government faced following Canadian Confederation in 1867. the Canadian government bought Rupert's Land from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1869 and appointed an English-speaking governor, William McDougall. he was opposed by the French-speaking, mostly Métis inhabitants of the settlement. McDougall sent out surveyors before the land was officially transferred to Canada to have them plot the land according to the square township system used in Ontario. the Métis, led by Riel, prevented McDougall from entering the territory. McDougall declared that the Hudson's Bay Company was no longer in control of the territory and that Canada had asked for the transfer of sovereignty to be postponed. the Métis created a provisional government and invited an equal number of anglophone representatives. Riel undertook to negotiate directly with the Canadian government to establish Assiniboia as a province. meanwhile, Riel's men had arrested members of a pro-Canadian faction that had resisted the provisional government, including an Orangeman named Thomas Scott. Riel had Scott put on trial and executed by firing squad for offences usually considered non-capital. Canada and the provisional government soon negotiated an agreement. in 1870, the legislature passed the Manitoba Act, allowing the Red River settlement to enter Confederation as the province of Manitoba. the Act also incorporated some of Riel's demands, such as separate French schools for Métis children and protection of Catholicism. after the agreement was made, Canada sent a military expedition to Manitoba to enforce federal authority. now known as the Wolseley Expedition (or Red River Expedition), it consisted Canadian Militia and British regular soldiers led by Colonel Garnet Wolseley. as the expedition headed west, outrage grew in Ontario over Scott's execution. many Ontarians demanded that Wolseley's expedition be used to arrest Riel and suppress what they considered to be rebellion. Riel fled before the expedition reached Fort Garry, and the arrival of troops marked the end of the Rebellion. The formal name of this tree is "Eucalyptus camaldulensis" which may help you do a more comprehensive search on google or similar. I hope this helps a little Powered by Yahoo!
