Best answer:It's great right now. http://www.skisilverstar.com/ Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: Which train journey is better scenic and enjoyable - Silver Star or Silver Meteor?Full question:I'm planning a trip to Newyork from Miami this July. Which train is better enjoyable and scenic views. I see Silver Star covers most of the Day in Corolinas and Virgina. Please suggest, greatly appreciate your help with this. Best answer:I've been on both. I don't have any memory of the views, but I do remember that the Meteor was a faster, and more direct ride than the Star. Is there an existing list of Silver star recipents?Full question:I am looking for a list of silver star recipents in WWII. I'm looking for a Marine that recieved a silver star for Bloody Nose ridge at Peleliu island in 1944. Does anybody know how i can find a list of some type? Best answer:Such a listing of Silver Star recipients has never existed. If: You have the Marine's name and/or serial number, you might be able to establish which regiment/division? he was attached to . That would enable you to research their records and have an excellent chance of retrieving your information. How did George C marshall earn his silver star?Full question:Seems Marshall was never in any real combat, how did he get a silver star? Best answer:Glenn, George C. Marshall received his first star (flag rank) as Brigadier General on 1 October, 1936. From this point he moves rather quickly and on the day the Germans invade Poland on 1 September, 1939 he is in fact a full "General" with 4 stars on his collars. He worked his way up within the Officer ranks and in fact was well connected politically. He was by most accounts one of the most effective planners and developers of troop training the United States ever had. Winston S. Churchill would consider only Douglas MacArthur to be a better General (and the best) the United States had during WW II; however, he felt that General Marshall was a very "competent" U.S. Army Officer. Important as one considers the need for credibility during times of crisis as such we were confronted with during WW II. Hope this helps. If you need more contact me off line and I will be happy to assist further. Gerry D. What steps are taken to confirm a soldier deserves a silver star medal?Full question:Hi, I am doing a background check on a fictional story, and we need to just get some facts straight, since none of the researchers has this type of military experience. I apologize in advance, if my terminology is off. Okay, so say a Soldier is in a battle, and he does an heroic act. He gets discharged or takes a leave of absence soon after that battle. While he's back home in a small town, he finds out that he's been awarded a silver star medal for that previous battle. Now, my questions are: - Would they send someone in person to the town he lives in, and tell him in person? - Do they have to do some interview process to confirm that he was in that battle, and the facts were true? - What kind of paperwork would need to be done, and what officer rank would be dealing with it? Thanks, any help would be appreciated. If I am way off here, Please tell me the actual administration soldiers would have to go through, before getting the Silver Star medal. take care. Best answer:A Silver Star is a senior enough award that he would definitely be contacted if he was receiving it. Normally they wouldn't just say, "hey, here you go," they'd want to do an awards ceremony for him. Awards are submitted via the commanding officer of the individual, whether of the specific detatchment to which he is assigned or a larger unit commander. Under appropriate circumstances, a senior enlisted member can originate the award submission. They are approved (or not) based on the justification provided by the submitter. Generally, the heavier the justification provided by the submitter, the more likely the award to be approved. Like anything else in the military, it is submitted through a chain of command. The soldier himself would have very little to do with the process; it would be more on the chain of command involved and the approval authority necessary. They wouldn't necessarily interview him, because the assumption is that the person submitting the award recommendation is being truthful. The criteria set forth by the Pentagon are: The Silver Star is awarded to a person who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S. Army, is cited for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force, or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. The required gallantry, while of a lesser degree than that required for award of the Distinguished Service Cross, must nevertheless have been performed with marked distinction. Soldiers who received a citation for gallantry in action during World War I may apply to have the citation converted to the Silver Star Medal. Normally, awards of such seniority would be approved by a general officer in charge of a force level unit. what is the kelly silver star walking bit used for?Full question:i have a kelly silver star walking bit that was recently handed down by family, and i was wondering if i can use this bit on my quater horse cross? does the "walking" mean that the bit was made of a tennesee walker? or just the name? its full name is kelly silver star-walking horse curb bit, does this mean its only for walking and no galloping, if not then what DOES it mean and can i use it? Best answer:The Walking stands for Walking Horse. No this is not a bit for you to use. I am a proponent of shanked bits on the trail because I have seen too many horses with bleeding mouths from riders sawing at the reins to stop a spooked horse. But unless you have a gaited horse, this bit is NOT the bit for you. In fact, I do not like this particular bit with gaited horses. The lack of port means no tongue clearance. This bit, when used improperly can literally cut the tongue of a horse in two. If you feel you need a shanked bit, then get a grazing bit. Is it true that Navy Seals could not get their silver star due to government cuts?Full question:I have been told that a friend of ours could not get his silver star in the Navy Seals due to cut backs in the government. Thus cutting back any added benefits he would get. If this is true, would such a decision come from the White House or Dept. of Defense? Best answer:I think this is completely bogus. I was in the Marines for 4 years. Firstly, it is your command's decision whether or not you get a Silver Star. If you have done something to merit one, and your command puts you in for the award, you will probably get it. Secondly, besides the cost of the metal itself, a silver star would have no effect on the budget of the Department of Defense. There is no financial gain for having a silver star. And the decision would come from the DOD. (department of Navy specifically) but the decision to award a silver star happens at a much lower level. Where can I find silver star push pins?Full question:My grandma and I have looked almost everywhere for these push pins for my grandpa, and we just can't find them. The push pins like the ones in cork board, that have a silver star on the end. If anyone knows where to find them, please tell! Best answer:http://sprout.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=4069531 Does anyone know where I can buy the weight watchers 10% key ring, silver star, or gold key charm?Full question:I'm looking for the weight watchers 10% key ring, the silver star charm, and/or the gold key charm. Does anyone know where I can get them. I'm doing weight watchers at home and but I like the awards you get for those milestones so if anyone knows where I can get them, please let me know. Best answer:I believe you can only get these if you attend meeting. I don't think you can buy them. What methods can be used to find silver star histories?Full question:Are records kept and available on the circumstances of the silver stars? Some records only list the decoration was given and the person I am interested in is not a relative, so I can not order the full record. Best answer:Try looking for the full citation here; http://militarytimes.com/citations-medals-awards/search.php?medal=5 How can I verify someone's claim to have received a Silver Star?Full question:A resume states that a person received a Silver Star (F.O.P): What does F.O.P. stand for, and what must a soldier do to receive a Silver Star? Also claims to have received "Navy and Marine Corps Medal - Heroism". Is there a public search available to verify this person's claims? Best answer:It would be on their DD-214 (discharge papers). Tell them that you need to see a copy to verify military service and type of discharge. Note: It appears that some police departments also award a Silver Star so F.O.P. may stand for Fraternal Order Of Police. I have never heard of it in reference to the military award. For a service member to receive it read this: http://www.homeofheroes.com/silverstar/ how do you find the reason a silver star was awarded?Full question:My grandfather was given the silver star at some point during his service with the US Air Force (including WWII, Korea, and Vietnam). How can I find out what he did that merited the award? Best answer:This is very nice of you. I am very impress! See if he has or registered a DD214 with your local clerk if not, go to http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html and request a copy. After receiving it you can write including a copy to the address below asking for the presentation and the substantiation for the award. National Personnel Records Center (Air Force) Air Force Reference Branch (NRPMF) 9700 Page Avenue St. Louis, MO 63132-5100 Please do me a favor and let me know what it says, it is a very big deal. Oh, if he is still alive thank him for me and us. Best of luck. Thank-you and God Bless you and the Southern People What kind of clothes is Silver Star?Full question:I got some Silver Star shirts as a gift and I was wondering what kind of clothes are they? Like are they a skater company or whatever? Best answer:This is straight from their website: "Evolving from a small Orange County-based accessory boutique, Silver Star Casting Company has become a full-scale global fashion and lifestyle company focusing on accessories and apparel in the men’s and women’s sportswear market." "Silver Star Casting Company provides the latest in apparel, T-Shirt, headwear, shoes, hand bags, belts, buckles, jewelry, and watches. Best answer:Gold is fullscreen. Silver is widescreen. With the Tillman fracticide now in the open, what will happen to the posthumous Silver Star?Full question:Personally, i believe with the truth now out there, that award should be rescinded. The Silver Star was supposedly for engaging the enemy in a brave heroic fashion. I don't doubt that Tillman would have, if that was the case, but it wasn't. If that was the case for the Silver Star to be awarded, there would certainly be more soldiers being awarded them. Best answer:I see your point but at the same time since the medal was awarded posthumously, I think the award should not be rescinded, the family has been thru enough already with all the cover up from the mucky mucks at the Pentagon. So what should they say now, 'oops, we killed him, sorry, can we have the medal back?' Let's just leave it alone. An unfortunate event of any war is that people do die by friendly fire, it's inevitable with all the munitions flying thru the air....someone is bound to get hit. I just think this particular incident needs to go away and let the family get closure so they can move on. Who was the lowest ranking USAF veteran during the Vietnam War to receive the Silver Star?Full question:How many USAF,A2C (Airman second class) received Silver Stars during the Vietnam War? Best answer:Well first off, an A2C in Vietnam, is the same as a A1C today, an E-3. The ranks changed around 1967. A1C became SRA/SGT E-4 A2C became A1C E-3 A3C became Airmen E-2 Basic Airmen became Airmen Basic E-1 There were alot of E-3's in the USAF who received silver stars in Vietnam Mainly Search and Rescue PJ's and Helicopter Crewmen I haven't found any A3C's who were awarded the silver star, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. But I did find an A3C E-2 who was awarded the Air Force Cross during Vietnam. Airman Third Class Arthur N. Black. The link posted list all the enlisted PJ's who received the MOH, AFC and SS during Vietnam. How do you get a Silver Star?Full question:I've been looking into some military stuff and I'm trying to find the answer to how a person can get a Silver Star. I know it's awarded for valor and I know it's not awarded for valor above and beyond the call of duty, like the Medal of Honor. What would be an example of an act of valor that would get a solder a Silver Star? Best answer:The Silver Star is the third highest medal for gallantry one can be awarded in the Marine Corps. The two higher medals are the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. In the Army, the Silver Star is the second highest medal of gallantry. You will often see the Silver Star awarded for leadership under fire. An example is SSgt, Evers, of the 3rd Bn 5th Marines in Iraq. Evers maneuvered through machine gun fire and small arms fire to assess enemy positions and direct his platoon's fire with disregard to his own safety. The fighting positions constructed under his leadership protected his marines' lives while withstanding attacks by RPG's, thousands of rounds of small arms fire, and a car bomb. Another Silver Star award to a marine of the 3rd Bn 5th Marines is during Vietnam. Lance Corporal Frank Ambrose was awarded the Silver Star for valiant action. While patrolling Rt.1 they came under an enemy ambush. His 15 man squad sustained rocket and mortar fire, leaving him to hold the position until help arrived. His 15 marines withstood an attack by more than 1000 enemy for 40 to 45 minutes. He used up his ammunition and that of fallen marines at his side. Although seriously injured in the chest and left arm, he continued to hold his position. Once Marine helicopters arrived, he refused to orders to board the helicopter and provided suppressive fire while his comrades were evacuated. A second helicopter arrived and he continued to provide suppressive fire from aboard the helicopter until they were out of range of the enemy fire. Best answer:You'll find something here: http://www.warriorforum.com/internet-marketing-product-reviews-ratings/116660-5-star-silver-club.html Which journey is better - Silver Star or Silver Meteor?Full question:Which train journey is better scenic and enjoyable - Silver Star or Silver Meteor? I'm planning a trip to New york from Miami this July. Which train is better enjoyable and scenic views. I see Silver Star covers most of the Day in Corolinas and Virgina. Please suggest, greatly appreciate your help with this. Best answer:It should make no difference at all. There's no scenery to see no matter which train you take. I've traveled by train 3 times from NY to Miami and trust me, there is hardly anything of interest to see except train yards, junk yards, and flat, ugly looking terrain. A couple of towns that the train stops in might be nice to see plus you might see peeks of the monuments in Wash DC and the skyline of Phila but that's about it. Bring lots to read and things to keep you busy. The ride is very borrrrrrrring. When will I be able to buy the silver star Paula Abdul ring?Full question:On HSN they have a waiting list for the copper one. I want the silver one. Are Sylvania Silver Star headlights worth all the money and hype?Full question:Right now I have the Sylvania Cool Blue halogens, but they aren't as blue as when I first got them. They are not as bright as I thought they would be, all though they are way brigther than standard yellow halogens. The worst part about them is reflect very poorly off of wet road surfaces which is one advantage the yellow halogens. I was wondering if the Silver Stars are superior to both or should I save my money and go back to regular bulbs? Best answer:I've used the silver stars and they will stay their color, white, for longer. You might be better off picking up a set Japanese set from e-bay for alot less money. But dont buy the cheapest ones either, look for the color temp (ex:5000,8500K,etc)The higher the number the brighter the bulb. I have a star note silver certificate, series 1957 in good condition. How valuable is it?Full question:I work at a supermarket and today I found a series 1957 silver certificate in the register with a star next to the serial number. It is in pretty good condition, and I know some about US paper currency, but what I would really like to know is how much it's worth considering its crispy, unworn condition. Best answer:here is the question, where has it been.U.S curency is pulled from curculation about every ten years and burned. This may be stolen from someones collection,These bills are still only worth face value. new skates: silver star reidells $420. are they good and is the price right?Full question:okay so im in about FS4. havent been fully tested yet, but my coach says im about that [ salchow, flip, loop, combination jumps, etc.] But she said i need some new boots for my skates. I was recommended Silver star reidells for better support, and they are $420. i bout $250 skates just a year back from the same guy and they only lasted a year, so i just dont want to make the wrong decision. does the price sound reasonable, and am i choosing the right boot, that will last me for a while? oh yeah and he asked me my weight, i guess for the support of the boots reasons. im about 140 and 5'9 if that makes a difference in what boot is needed. Best answer:The Silver Stars sound right on for your level . . . but most importantly make sure they fit you well (I don't know what skates you had before) - as you know, different brands fit feet differently. Will they last . . . hard to say . . . some skaters are light on their feet, others are more aggressive. Some skate a couple times a week - and others skate tons more. "Better support" depends on what skates you are graduating from - but it sounds like it if you paid $250 just last year whatever boots they were. Here is a boot recommendation chart from Riedell http://www.riedellskates.com/fit/boots.html According to this chart, the Silver Start should be ok for FS 3-5, though of course it depends on how hard and how much you skate as well. Here is another chart from Skatebuys - in which you can compare with other skate brands/models http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/skatebuys/skateselect.html A couple price comparisons: For these online pricies, you've got to figure in any extra sealing, mounting of blades, online shipping etc etc for these prices. These are just the boots alone (I personally don't buy skates online!) USA Skates - $355.99 http://www.usaskates.com/figureboots/riedell355womensfigureboots.html Rainbo Sports - $394.95 http://www.rainbosports.com/shop/site/product.cfm/id/4AC56F44-475A-BAC0-57264C170991925E icesk8er has done a lot of research on Riedells - Silver/Gold Star . . . she'll have some good input!!
