Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to Snowbird... Snow Skiing QuestionsThe following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category: Should I stay in Salt Lake City to ski in Snowbird?Full question:I checked all the hotels around Snowbird, only to find that they are very expensive. Would you recommend that I stay within Salt Lake City to ski everyday at Snowbird? Mind you, I will have no car (so I will rely on other means of transport) Thanks in advance. Best answer:You can do it pretty easy. I have stayed at the Days Inn in Midvale and rode the bus up to Snowbird. The hotel offered a "Superpass" that included Tram and Public transit. Make sure to download a copy of the bus schedule. I never had any trouble in the morning, but I did have to wait a few times coming down at the end of the day. This particular Days Inn was right by a TRAX station too, so running downtown at night was not a problem. I had a shuttle from the airport, I think it cost me $30 round trip. There are of course other hotel options in Sandy as well. Good Luck, have fun! What time does it start snowing at snowbird in utah?Full question:im planning a vacation out there and was trying to figure out when it would start snowing im thinking somewhere round december 9th-ish also i wanna know if snowbird is a good mountain for a beginner snowboard er, i mean i've been a few times and can stand up on a board decent enough to get down intermediate runs but my girl has never been. Best answer:I love Snowbird, but it is not a very good resort for beginners. Alta, which is connected to Snowbird, does not allow snowboards at all. Early December frequently has poor snow conditions. I would not plan a trip in advance for early December. Wait until you know where there is snow. You won't have any problems finding a place to stay at the last minute. This year California had great early snow. Often Whistler does. If I had to bet on any resort having early snow, I'd bet on Whistler. is the Brighton Ski resort better than the Snowbird Ski resort, or is it the other way around?Full question:me and my brother went to Brighton but i've never been to snowbird. we are going snowbording tommorow and Brighton closes this week, so i want to know if a should go to brighton one more time or snowbird? Best answer:Is that a serious question? Snowbird rapes Brighton in every conceivable category except maybe crowds. I want to go snowbird to ski but want to miss most of the crowds what is the best time of the year to go skiinFull question:I am still in school and can't leave just like that but want to go this year or next. Best answer:Or January - there is usually heaps of snow, and crowds are low unless the hordes invade from Salt Lake City on a powder day. It is cold. Generally a resort's low season prices are there to attract people when the resort is not busy, so look for the low season deals. That is when the crowds are likely to be smaller. Anyone know what time it usually starts snowing at snowbird UT?Full question:im planing a snowboard vacation out there with my girl and would like to when its snowing i was just wondering about what time in the 2011-2012 season. any info would be mucho appreciated thx o i need to know quite a bit ahead of time because the time share my parents are letting us use books up quick and there are limited spots available. Thank. Best answer:By December it's usually very good conditions, and that lasts until they close in late April. It depends on the year, though. It could hit em hard in November and be great, the snowpack may not be fully developed until mid December Where can u find private guides that will take two people hiking at snowbird?Full question:
Best answer:the Snowbird website Going to Utah skiing Dec 19to25. How is the road going to Snowbird? Can a mini van make it all weather tires?Full question:
Best answer:The road to snowbird is fine if its not snowing. If it is snowing, I recommend a 4x4. If its too bad, they'll close the road. FYI... There was a freak avalanche at Snowbird and a woman died just the other day. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_11232264 Which ski resort is better for a trip of 7 advanced/expert skiers(18 yrs old), jackson hole or snowbird?Full question:I went to snowbird last year and love it but was thinking about trying out jackson this year for something new. The one drawback about jackson that I have heard is that tree skiing is minimal. Is this true? We all love skiing the trees so this could impact our decision. Any opinions would be great. Thanks! Best answer:Both great resorts Jackson Hole can be incredibly cold (the artic cold just drops into the bowl shaped valley and doesn't want o leave) and typically far less air service than Salt Lake in terms of price competitiveness. Both should definitely be on the to do list. Really can't go wrong with either choice, where will you be traveling from and in what month will you be traveling. How is skiing at Snowbird in late April?Full question:
Best answer:Went to 'bird about 10 yrs ago in late April. It was great; one day it snowed 12 in; the next day girls were skiing in bikinis. Go. You'll have a fine time. What do you recommend between Snowbird, Deer Valley, or Alta?.?Full question:If you could choose between these three, and you are an average skier, which would you choose and why? A young child (4) will also be going. Thanks Best answer:I went to Utah in december, with a trip with my 10 year old. If you are traveling with a 4 year old, the trip is going to be about having fun. Alta and Snowbird are "hardcore" mountains. Alta's lifts don't even have safety bars (un-nerving for a 4 year old, or parent)/ Alta is really geared for off-piste advanced skiers. Snowbird is much the same. They are fantastic places, and I wish I were there now, but I don't think it is the right choice for a 4 year old. You should definitely choose Deer Valley - they will have more "fluff" for your kiddie. More specialized kids programs will be the way to go. Plus, being in Park City, there's lots of other stuff to do. Alta and Snowbird are up in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and are isolated (great for adults, and focused skiers riders). In Park City, there's a whole town and a lot more choice of accommodations and activity. Deer Valley will have many more groomed trails than the other 2, which means it is better for an average skier. VERY IMPORTANT: You are going to be at high altitude. My son got altitude sickness, and it was awful. Make sure you take steps to prevent it as best you can: drink absurd amounts of water, and an asprin a day. Also, depending on when you fly into Salt lak, you might consider staying in Salt Lake for a day to acclimatize. They have a great Planetarium your 4 year old will enjoy. Where can I get some tickets for less than $59? I've heard that their terrain park designer quit so I was wondering if they will have it open by January 1st, Or if they are going to open it at all. Best answer:I would just email them and ask. No point speculating. info@snowbird.com whats the best way to sell a snowbird vacation membership?Full question:i would like to sell a snowbird vacation membership without having to give money ahead of time to someone and having them list it. Any suggestions from anyone would help. Best answer:I bought my membership from the "White Pages" advertisement tabloid in the area the membership is for. (Arizona). The area your membership is for is probably the best place to advertise. People there without a membership and liking the area are more likely to buy it than people who have never been there and can't check out the facilities. Also try Craigs List.com Posting an ad is free and People look on Craigs List for everything from apt.s to car parts, to vacation rentals, to you name it. Best answer:First off, you're passing a lot of good resorts on your way to the bird. That being said, plan on 2 hours - 2:15 depending on traffic and weather. There will be days when you can make it in under 2 hours but then again there will be days (powder days) when I-15 will suck and it will be closer to 2:30. Always give yourself plenty of time on pow days because little cottonwood can get busy and sometimes it's even might be closed for the first few hours of the morning while they do avie work. Florida residents- what is your favorite bogus information to give out when a tourist or snowbird asks?Full question:When I get asked for directions to the beach or disney or wherever, I like to say, "OK, take I-95 and head north for about 1000 miles. You can't miss it!" I live in the Tampa Bay area now so I substitute I-75 for I-95. To Papeversomni: Directions to NY- Just take I-95 and head north for.... haha. Best answer:That it's nice here and the people are both friendly and kind... I am a Ny'er, stuck here like a horse in the mud! Your joy in giving fake directions... just proves my point. Thinks to herself** 'You got that right brooklyn!' If you absolutely must go south... keep going right past Florida and go to the Bahamas where people actually are friendly without the ever present hidden agenda... You don't get nice helpful or friendly here unless it in some way serves them. You would think considering, how people here might be a little more grateful since northerners come down once a year and feed their families! My Top 10 list of things that are wrong with Florida... 1. I have never seen so many people go so far out of their way to avoid working. It's like a full time job looking like your working but actually doing anything but! It is an epidemic! 2. Right to work state. Watch out for the psychophants and butt eaters! They will cut your throat and steal a job right out from under a fresh dead corpse! 3. They are all really fast to insult Northerns saying things like we are; "rude, noisy, ignorant and nasty." But... for some strange reason, we are only like that around YOU! I have met some of the most rude and incendeary, absolute ignorant, horribly mean and nasty people right here in the; "I am better than you because of widespread, geographical and morally inept oblivion." state. You people aint all your cracked up to be and nowhere near as special as you assume! 4. People here are slower than black strap molassas. Don't expect to get any kind of counter service in a timely manner... Lunch breaks should be 2 hours considering, but here... you have to go to work an hour early to get a decent lunch break! You end up working from 8 to 6 if you want an hour lunch and if you go out to eat...be prepared to wait...FOREVER! 5. Most people are Sneaky, underhanded, wacked out pot heads! (no seriously) Very shady, very sneaky, very to themselves but they are the first ones to get all up in your business. So much for "Southern charm." Especially the women! Nosey, rude and instinctually evil! Very primate like... 6. They don't know how to mind their own business and if you don't wave back at them while walking or driving up your street (GAWD FORBID) you are treated like crap and shunned from everyone in the neighborhood and called a snob just because you didn't retrun a hand gesture from a complete and total phony! YOU MUST WAVE BACK! I honestly think that it is the law here... 7. Don't even get me started on the driving and the medians and the complete and total lack of public transportation and while I'm at it, where are the damn sidewalks? 8. Obviously... don't ask 'seemingly' nice and normal people for directions. Trust me, they're neither nice or normal. I don't know of a Ny'er that would do that to a tourist unless they were a teenager being a smart ass! but that is the general adult mindset here anyway so... 9. I have never seen so many people bit*ch and whine about rich northerners coming down here and givng them an economy and a seasonal livelihood that they might otherwise not have! 10. They assume that these crap houses are valuable... They are cinder blocks and morter! Cheap crap and no one here can decorate either! They all believe that they have something, but go up north and see the lawns and decor the pride of ownership and know the differences between people that work hard and care for their homes and property because they are beautiful and usually TWO or more FLOORS! Not just L shaped, overpriced junk! The real estate people are SHARKS and the sellers are dishonest and talk up their garbage like it's a palace! My neighbor... mows his lawn with a house arrest electronic cuff on his ankel. IN SHORTS! Wow... I KNOW I feel better now. When is the best time to travel to Snowbird, UT?Full question:Hi, I'm looking to take a trip to Snowbird next year and am wondering the best time to go? I'm looking for nice powder days, but also enjoy warmer spring riding...any suggestions? Thanks! Best answer:That's hard to predict but I would say Feb 7-28th has been one of the best times in the past and if that holds true next year that would be a good time. The powder is fabulous at the 'Bird!! Have fun why the song "snowbird" for Anne Murray, was a hit back in the 1970's????what does this song hold?Full question:I need to know why this song was a hit back then! It is my homework to guess what makes it unique! I really can't think of something!!!!! Can anyone help me please? Best answer:To do homework, you have to have some clue. Have you heard the song before? Do you know the lyrics? If not, you shouldn't ask others to do your homework for you. My advice it to look up the lyrics, or better yet, download the song and figure it out yourself. Would you like to be a Snowbird?
