How does the sunday river Chondola work?

Full question:

I'm headed up to Sunday River in three weeks and I haven't been there in 4 years. I recently heard they added something called a Chondola, which from what I've heard is a combination of a chair lift and a gondola. I was wondering though, how does it work do you get the gondola by chance? Or is there a separate line for the chair lift and a separate line for the gondola?

Best answer:

hey i snowboard at sunday river....yes the chondola has 2 seperate lines-- 1 for the 6 person chair and 1 for the gondola cars--- but then it only takes you about half way up the mountain and then you need to switch over to a different lift to go even higher--i never understood why they didint make the chondola go all the way up

How steep are the steepest trails at Sunday River?

Full question:

I'm headed up to Sunday River in 3 weeks and I wanted to know how steep the steepest trails are. Like, at what pitch do they generally go to?

Best answer:

You will find trails as steep as the steepest of trails at any other major ski area in the east. Pitch can be defined in both percent of slope or degrees. Which do you want?

Will sunday river open more trails for this coming weekend 10/27?

Full question:

Im goin up on friday night and would love for them to open a trail all the way to the bottom. Do you think they can pull it off? Does anyone have some insider info on good snowmaking weather coming in this week?

Best answer:

With the warm weather/rain we are having this week they will most likely focus on refreshing the trails they had open. The forecast isn't looking good for snowmaking this week, maybe some opportunities for nighttime snowmaking later in the week at higher elevations. I don't see them having anything else open based on the forecast this week. Make sure you check their site before you leave friday to make sure they're gonna open for the weekend

First timer skiing at Sunday River in Maine. Any advice?

Full question:

Anyone with experience at Sunday River? Where is the best place to stay and eat? What runs are best for a beginner? (I plan to take a lesson.) Also, I live in Florida so I have no cold weather conditioning. I am buying some bibs online, but what do you wear with them? Any other tidbits of info to make my trip great?

Best answer:

Wear several thin layers of clothing except on your feet, one pair of ski socks and your foot are all that should be in the boot. Your boots should fit TIGHT around your foot and ankle. Keep well hydrated, drink water, ice your muscles right after skiing to lessen cramping or soreness. Listen to the advice of your instructor, they will know the area and your skill level. As to conditioning, start now with a jump rope about 15 minutes a day, swim, any activity to increase your conditioning, Ice your muscles right after skiing for 20 minutes, then go dancing, hot tub and sauna. Enjoy yourself.

Anyone been to Sunday River in the past week or so? How's the conditions and lift lines??

Full question:

Best answer:

I've been to Sunday River every weekend for the past few weeks. It was a little messy and bumpy a while ago, but it keeps getting better and better! They've been making plenty of snow and grooming. They are opening up more and more trails, so there is skiing for all levels now. I love that place! It's my favorite mountain and I think it definitely has the best early season skiing. Some would say Killington, but I'm leery of Killington because they are traditionally overly optimistic about what they consider a "trail". They count rocks and grass as open terrain. Oh, also - Sunday River is true to its word about "guaranteed" conditions. If you get there early in the morning, do a run or two and aren't happy - they will give you a "rain check" to come back any time during the season to any of the ASC mountains (6 mountains to choose from). That's a good deal! See you on the slopes! Enjoy!

Questions from Other Categories

The following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant:

Is there a bus that goes from Boston to Sunday River ski resort?

Full question:

I live in MA in the framingham/worcestor area and a few friends and I want to go skiing for the weekend up at Sunday River. Is there a shuttle or some bus that would take us up there?

Best answer:

Check out the Boston Ski & Sports Club. Bus and Lift for only $78! You don't have to buy the ski lift tickets through them if you don't want to. It would cost somewhere around $40 for just the bus. http://www.bssc.com/index.cfm?page=dates_details.cfm&category=5&activity=35

What kind of artificial snow additives do they use at Sunday River?

Full question:

Do they use Drift? If not, what is the name of the product they do use?

Best answer:

Yes they use drift but they are just adding to the pollution which means less frequent snow and shorter winters. Its terrible.

What town is near Sunday River and Sugarloaf?

Full question:

I'm trying to put together a ski trip and trying to find a place to stay, I want to snowboard at both mountains in Maine.. does anyone know a town that is pretty close driving distance to both?

Best answer:

sunday river is in Bethel sugarloaf is in Carrabassette valley (sp?), nearest major town is Kingfield about 15 miles away... ..the distance between sunday river and sugarloaf is almost 100 miles ...the thing about maine ski resorts is that there are no surrounding tourist towns like you find in vermont...you almost have to stay right at the resort since there is a whole lot of nothing around it, especially between bethel and kingfield....you could stay at kingfield, then you would be about 20 miles to sugarloaf and about 80 miles to sunday river...unfortunately there really isnt a better place that evens out the drive more...but 80 miles is more than reasonable for a daytrip and you could be at sugarloaf really quick, which is the better mountain anyway ...

where can i go near sunday river ski resort in maine to have a nice dinner?

Looking for things to do with a 2 year old near Sunday River in Maine in March.?

Full question:

I will be up there with my almost 2-year old daughter, and I'm looking for some ideas of things to do with her while my older daughter learns to ski. Thanks!

Best answer:

Bethel is great- the town nearby. If you're comfortable leaving your older daughter at the resort, you can drive (about 3 miles) back to Bethel and there are a few things to do there. I once went on a dog sled ride at the Bethel Inn and Country Club. That would be fun, and your daughter would like the doggies. We have plenty of snow up here so don't worry about that! If you can't find a place for that, you can try sleigh rides. Here is the site for sleigh rides- they're given at the Inn every day http://www.deepwoodfarm.com/sleigh.htm Shopping can be fun but your daughter might get bored. If you're there on a Saturday there is a farmers market- although in march it might not be open yet. If all else fails, Sunday River has tubing, cross country skiing, a pool, and ice skating so you can try any of those. Come on up- hopefully it warms up by the time you get here (-5 today!)

If Springsteen plays entire River album on Sunday, will there be time for many other songs?

Full question:

Bruce announced he's playing entire River album (double album -- 20 songs) on Sunday in NY. He typically plays 26 - 28 songs per concert. Does this mean he's leaving out some of his "classics"?

Best answer:

That's a great question. 20 songs, some of them pretty long (Independence Day, The Price You Pay, Drive All Night, Point Blank). So if he's got 8 additional songs, you've got to figure that you WON'T hear Backstreets, Jungleland, Incident, etc. None of the other "epics." You'll definitely get Born to Run. You'll almost certainly get Badlands (skipped only once in 30 years or so?). I figure this... 1. You'll get 3 or 4 songs at the beginning of the show. Things like he's been doing lately are... Prove It All Night Hungry Heart (he loves the crowd surfing part) Working on a Dream 2. After The River, he'll probably do Born to Run followed by Badlands. 3. That leaves an encore of Hard Times, Dancing in the Dark, and American Land. He may even tack on something (as he's been doing) like "Higher and Higher" at the end (or even Rosie). Regardless, the full River is going to be incredible.

will my hard tail mountain bike be okay to ride Sunday river, ME?

Full question:

I have a hard tail mountain bike and i am wondering if it will be okay to ride down the mountain, because people have said get a full suspension, but i cant rent or afford one. So will i be able to make it down the mountain without a bruised butt?

Best answer:

I have both kinds of bikes. You can ride pretty much any trail with a hard tail that a suspension handles; suspension just helps keep the rear tire in contact with the trail better and reduces the force of bumps. I find trails to be a bit more challenging on the hard tail (and they take a little longer), but it's a nice change on trails I've gotten very comfortable on. Remember: suspension or not you tend not to ride super technical stuff just sitting on your saddle so you shouldn't end up bruised if you ride correctly.

which is better? sunday river or killington?

Full question:

im going on a ski vacation to new england this february and cant decide between killington or sunday river.

Best answer:

sunday river is practically in my backyard but i'll say killington by far...it's bigger, more trails, more variety of trails and the whole area around killington is much more fun than the SR area...sunday river (bethel, maine area) doesn't have anything to offer for apres ski...killington is consistently voted best all around mountain for skiing and apres ski... nearby to kiiilngton is Okemo mountain which is amazing too --its only 20 miles from killington so you have the option of skiing a whole other resort if you like... ..killington by far

What do I wear to a Sunday morning wedding where the reception will be a cruise on a Mississippi river boat?

Full question:

Best answer:

Something that enables you to climb on and off and around the boat easily. In other words, wear something that is not so short that it displays your undies to the world when you climb around. Four-inch heels are also not appropriate, as one doesn't want to get tripped up by cables or ropes. Maybe pants and a dressy shirt? Something a bit dressy because it's a wedding . . . but something that enables you to climb on and off gracefully and with dignity.

A drunk stumbles across a baptismal service on Sunday afternoon down by the river. He proceeds to walk down in

Full question:

the water and stand next to the Preacher. The minister turns and notices the old drunk and says, "Mister, Are you ready to find Jesus?" The drunk looks back and says, "Yess, Preacher..I sure am." The minister then dunks the fellow under the water and pulls him right back up. "Have you found Jesus?" the preacher asked. "Nooo, I haven't!" said the drunk. The preacher then dunks him under for quite a bit longer, brings him up and says, "Now, brother, have you found Jesus?" "Noooo, I have not Reverend." The preacher in disgust holds the man under for at least 30 seconds this time, brings him out of the water and says in a harsh tone, "My God, man, have you found Jesus yet?" The old drunk wipes his eyes and says to the preacher..."Are you sure this is where he fell in?"

Best answer:

Oh, funny! Is it showing the overly persistence of the preacher or the drunk's ignorant ways? Either way, was a good laugh! Thanks!
