Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to The Remarkables... Snow Skiing QuestionsThe following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category: Is late June a good time to go skiing in New Zealand?Full question:Me and a couple of friends are planning on going for a ski trip to Queenstown (remarkables, coronet peak etc.) and are thinking of going from the 26th of June to the 3rd of July. Will there be a good amount of snow by then? If not, when is a better time to go? Best answer:I lived in Queenstown for a number of years and I would definitely recommend August as the best time of the year to ski in NZ. The snow is consistently good during August and you can avoid the school holiday crowds (from 15th July to 01st August). During school holiday breaks accommodation in ski resorts is more limited, the ski fields more crowded, roads busier etc -as this when the majority of NZ families go skiing! Should I go skiing in the south or north island of new zealand?Full question:I'm trying to decide if I should ski Remarkables and Coronet Peak or Mt. Raupehu. Please help! Also, I'm having trouble finding cheap places to stay on the north island next to Mt. Raupehu. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I will not have a car so I will need transport to and from where I'm staying. I need it to be cheap. Best answer:I've skied Remarkables and Coronet, I suppose it depends on your level as a skier. If you're just a beginner any mountain will work. If you can get around the mountain pretty well, Ruahpehu would be far better. Coronet is pretty crumby, it's just a bunch of crusty manmade snow on one side of a hill in a region that doesn't snow that much. Remarkables was nice but quite small. Whakapapa on Ruapehu, and the other one (whose name escapes me...) are way bigger and receive more snow than Coronet, along with stunning views on a truly massive volcano. I really hope to ski there one day which is the best ski resort?Full question:i'm going to go to New Zealand with my family this summer and is going to SKI!!! but we can't figure out which ski resort to go to we looked at the ski resorts and ended up with a few... coronet peak the remarkables cardrona treble cone IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO ANY OF THESE PLACES, PLEASE HELP!!! Best answer:Treble Cone is the best I think. Cardrona is fun too. The remarkables is nice because its so close to queenstown and there is a lot to do there. Coronet is close to queenstown, but its not very good. I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend planning a visit to the three best places...that way you can experience it all!! And you may as well if you're only going to be in New Zealand for a once in a lifetime vacation!! Also, make sure you rent a 4wheel drive vehicle to get to the resorts...the roads are incredibly dangerous (especially to Treble Cone)...be careful!! Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: Is it possible to visit the remarkables even if it is closed for the season?Full question:Im going to visit queenstown nz on the 23rd and would love to visit ski resorts..it will be my first time and so im curious if theyre open.. Best answer:Please check more carefully the y/a categories. This is Orlando, Florida travel section and we are almost 10,000 miles away. In Queenstown, which ski field is better- Cardrona, Coronet peak or the Remarkables?Full question:I am an intermediate skier, and i've already done Cardrona. I really liked the variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes, and the staff, which were very nice... In your opinion, which out of the three slopes are the best? Best answer:They are all different remarks are pretty flat, pretty boring to be honest, id go coronet, or how about wanaka and go to treble cone or snow park? Information about the Remarkables in Queenstown?Full question:I want information about the remarkables Best answer:I've not been there myself but there are some good online references to The Remarkables. Tripadviser.com has a bunch of reviews and there is an official website. How to get to the New Zealand ski fields by shuttle bus?Full question:Could you please provide instructions for getting from central Queenstown to each of: 1. Cardrona 2. Remarkables 3. Coronet Peak Best answer:1. In case u were wondering i am refering to the queenstown in new zealand not the one in australia which matilda seems to be refering to! Best answer:No that sounds about right. I lived in the south island for years - we use to go snow skiing in the morning and water skiing in the afternoon in October - The ski fields would close soon after but it can be done! September - October is just coming into nice weather. Who is in the mood for some trivia?Full question:Which umpire, when umpiring an ODI at Queenstown deliberately chose the end where he would have his back to the Remarkables, so he would not be distracted by the view? Not Billy. Clue: Not a NZ umpire. Not Benso Not Rudi either Third time lucky RIP! Best answer:MR Benson Edit- RE Koertzen Edit- NJ Llong Edit- Thanks guys i was guessing http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;ground=1653;orderby=matches_umpire;player_type=2;size=200;template=results;type=official South Island NZ: scrambling routes and challenging daywalks?Full question:I will be visiting the South Island of NZ in a couple of weeks and am very interested in scrambling routes/easy climbs (New Zealand grade 1/2) that I could do. Trips similar to a grand traverse of the Remarkables or a climb up the north ridge of the Dassler pinnacles are the sorts of things I am very keen on. Also, any information/advice you might have on the level of snow on these sorts of peaks would be greatly appreciated. Best answer:http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/ Check out the DOC website, they've got information on different tracks and walks. ... Does it snow in the town of Queenstown, NZ?Full question:I know it snows on the mountains (remarkables, coronet peak etc) But what about IN the town area? Some people I've spoken to says it rarely does others say different. Please clear this up for me as I'm going on a holiday there soon! Thanks! I live in Australia, thats why im going to NZ....... Best answer:I lived in Queenstown for five years, it used to snow in the centre of town quite regularly during the height of winter (July & August) however with global warming winters seem to be getting milder and snow falling in the centre of the township is now quite rare. The roads do become very icy however so if you’re intending to drive up and down to the skifields each day I would recommend using chains and driving cautiously. The council does grit the majority of roads early in the morning to prevent people losing traction, it still pays to drive slowly in winter regardless. Here is a link to a website showing webcam views of the township, you will notice the snow is generally restricted to the mountain ranges. http://www.queenstown.com/queenstown-webcams.html If you’re not going for a ski holiday and want to hang around in the snow you can walk up Queenstown Hill which is a large hill behind the township, hike up to the top of the hill and check out the awesome 180 degree views of the township, lake and surrounding mountains. Can be tricky to find the start of the track, it begins and ends on Belfast Street. It will be a bit muddy and icy during winter so you’ll need sensible shoes but it’s definitely worth the effort, and there will usually be snow when you reach the top!. Link to Queenstown street map with Belfast Terrace on it below: http://www.google.com.au/maps?q=Queenstown,+New+Zealand&ie=UTF8&ll=-45.031104,168.662731&spn=0.008341,0.017209&z=16&om=1 Which ski resort in New Zealand has the best snow park to progress in (doesnt just have massive kickers etc.)?Full question:I know about the beginners line in SnowPark, but what all-round resort has the best park to learn freestyle - Cardrona or Remarkables? (or others?). Thanks Best answer:idk Anyone tried skiing in queenstown nz?Full question:Heard a lot about Coronet Peak and the Remarkables. need more info and rates. Need a little more insider info rather than the usual websites. Best answer:try asking under the nz section, different country to Aussie, 2000km distant Does it snow in Queenstown, New Zealand ?Full question:Simple enough. Does it snow in the actual city of Queenstown. I've seen a picture of the "Mall" draped in snow, but i'm now led to believe that it doesn't snow at all. Just up in the mountains (Remarkables, Coronet Peak etc ... ) I need to know if it snows in the city itself during July. Best answer:I have been in Queenstown when it has snowed. It was about 8 years ago and it was an extremly unusual occurance as it was in April. The locals said that they had more snow in those few days than they had, had the whole of the snow season the year before. There was not heaps of snow in the actual town, but it did snow although it melted very quickly in the actual town. My kids were photographed by a photographer on Coronet Peak and made the Otago times newspaper. We went on the shotover jet and they closed it down shortly afterwards as it was just so cold. hanging onto the metal bar was just freezing. They did open it up again for one special guest who had arrived in town in his own jet, so John Travolta got to ride. My whole family loved Queenstown and N.Z. and would love to go back there. if you were snow, where would you want to fall?Full question:i would totally fall on hawaii. or new zealand, at the Remarkables..ahh....fresh powder.. Best answer:inside peoples houses to freak them out Skiing in New Zealand?Full question:I'm going on a trip around Australia and New Zealand next year and am stopping over in Queenstown, NZ for the ski season. I was wondering which of the following is better for a semi/experienced skier: the Remarkables or Coronet Peak? Thanks broz Best answer:Coronet park Kenny Marks?Full question:I'm having a really hard time finding a song/cassette from back in the day. It's by Kenny Marks or Kenny Marks and the Remarkables. I think I had it some time in the 80's, perhaps early 90's. It's the album with "White Dress" and "The Party's Over." Please tell me that someone else remembers this Christian Rock album besides me. My searches are coming up nill and nobody I talk to has any idea what I'm talking about. If anyone knows where I can find it or at least get some confirmation that it exists then I will be happy. Best answer:You are not losing your mind! His cassette was called "Make It Right" released in '87 and there was a VHS called "Absolutely Positively" with his music videos that include both of those songs/videos. You can go to "Crossing Music" on the web and find used and new christian music items from him and others. :) who can beat my rap!?Full question:i live the best place in the world just then i hurled passed the remarkables best theartes on the globe ya cos where allowed to get sober we love star wars mainly yoda in my country i should be famous halve these actors are nameless all got loads of cash no wonder why there going to the bash my rap is straight from my heart ooh not any more i just did a fart well im playin darts look at those tarts smoking there fag well watching someone tag they dont care not even the slightest bit of fear theyll probably go hunt dear i starting lose the song i nearly dropped my thong ding dong go the church bell must mean seats need to sell that young boys gonna lose his hair with that gell what a terrible smell its like chicken carel hey my kids turn for show and tell over in his class i can just see him through the glass i should look less from the past i go on here to pass to and rhyme its cool having a suite life with no strife.and everybody go live your life Best answer:yo.. yo rap smell like doo-doo. take a bath cause so do you. my rap will give yours a black eye. make you never rhyme, not even try. i'm curb stompin those lyrics to the ground. down 6 feet, they aint never gone be found. i make your letters cry. like they makin onion pie. so take that you little poop. i just gave yo ass the scoop. Which New Zealand ski field should we go to?Full question:My family and I are visiting the south island of New Zealand in late August/early September and we're staying in Queenstown for about a week, so we want to do some skiing or snowboarding (my sister and I are leaning towards snowboarding), but we've never been skiing/snowboarding before. Which ski field should we go to? I've heard that Treble Cone and Coronet Peak are more geared towards experienced boarders, and that the Remarkables and Cardrona are better for beginners. I'm thinking of maybe going to Cardrona for a couple of days first, while we're learning the basics, and then maybe trying out one of the other fields. What do you think? Best answer:They all have beginner areas for people to learn skiing. Coronet Peak have quite a good training school while Cardrona is geared more towards family's. Either Cardrona or Coronet Peak should get you on the way. The Remarkables is also quite good but I prefer the other two. Try them all, do the learning at Coronet Peak or Cardrona then branch out and try a few. Skiing is apparently easier to learn then snowboarding. what would you think is more spectacular and be better to visit?Full question:click on each of the links below, and tell me what place you think is more grand and appealing, answer with numbers if you can! 1. http://www.satori.org/images/Blue_Mountains.JPG or 2.http://www.bergoiata.org/fe/ping/mt_cook_NZ.jpg 1.http://www.mkiwi.com/New+Zealand+picture/Queenstown/photographs/Remarkables_Range_Queenstown.jpg or 2.http://www.heinzalbers.org/picture-sy0084.jpg 1.http://www.mountains-wcpa.org/images/VicAlpinePark.jpg or 2.http://www.nobius.org/~dbg/trip-photos/new-zealand/mt-cook-panorama.jpg Best answer:All those places would be nice. Just remember, you bring your magic with you where ever you go. A couple questions regarding the types of ski lift passes available on the south island of new zealand?Full question:I am a teacher and would like to spend July 14th - August 16th in Queenstown New Zealand and ski at the surrounding resorts (Coronet Peak, Remarkables, Mt. Hutt, etc.). Currently it looks like I can either buy day passes or a season pass. Being that I won't be there for the whole ski season, is there temporary unlimited passes I can get that's cheaper than the season pass? Also, if you've skied in any of these places, do you suggest I get a combo pass so I can ski at all the mountains or just stick to one or two mountains. If so, which ones? Best answer:Trust me just get the season pass, you'll never know. And combo packs Powered by Yahoo!
