Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to Vail... Snow Skiing QuestionsThe following questions were posted in Yahoo's 'Snow Skiing' category: How far in advance should I make reservations for a ski trip to Vail?Full question:We are thinking about a trip to Vail in January 2010, and I was wondering how far in advance we should make reservations. Also, what is the best place to stay in Vail for the money? Thank you! Best answer:January is low season, so you can probably make reservations the day before you leave. The best place to stay in Vail for the money is a different resort, but that is my own opinion. Some people like the place. How is the skiing at Beaver Creek compared to Vail?Full question:I skied at Vail about 4 years ago, but my wife and I are looking at staying somewhere in Avon close to Beaver Creek, and I was curious to how the skiing was there compared to Vail mountain. Thanks! Best answer:Beaver Creek is a smaller, quieter, and more intimate resort. The skiing is great for families as you can ski almost the whole mountain and not worry too much about finding yourself overlooking a cliff as the only way to get back to the base. Vail on the other hand and as you know, is HUGE! Whatever terrain you want skiing-wise, you can find. The lines may be long at first, but as you get farther out back they will diminish. The village has everything, but it is also very large, and busy. Beaver Creek village is a great, fun, intermediate resort with challenging areas if you want to seek them out. If you want a romantic trip with your wife or a family trip, take Beaver Creek. If you are traveling with your college buddies or several families and need something for a wide range of folks, take Vail. Either way you will have a blast. How many days does it take ski most of the trails at vail ski resort?Full question:I am planning a ski trip to vail ski resort in Colorado. Best answer:Depends how good of a skier you are. 3-4 days is probably enough to get a good enough feel for the mountain, 4-6 days would be a good trip. But to actually ski every run? That could take a while. The back bowls aren't really runs anyway, just huge areas where you can ski wherever you please. How long does it take all of the runs to open at Vail Ski Mountain?Full question:So, I am leaving for Vail on December 28, and am thinking that all of the runs will be open, but am not completely sure. Any answers would be great! Best answer:Hi Kyle. I used to live in Vail (for 3 years). Depending on the natural snowfall and the snow making, most runs should be open for the Christmas holiday-one of the busiest times for Vail Resort. Not only does ski patrol need to make sure that there is enough snow, but they also have to make sure the snow is safe (to avoid avalanches and ground hazards-trees, rocks, etc.) and the area is accessible by emergency equipment (snowmobiles, injury toboggan). You should be able to ride the Back Bowls and Game Creek Bowl, but Blue Sky Basin is iffy. Since most lift passes for Vail work at other resorts in the area, maybe you can check out Beaver Creek, Breckenridge or Keystone for more terrain options. Any pass or lift ticket office can tell you where your ticket is valid. Enjoy the mountains!! Tell them I say hi :) what is the average cost to ski at vail or breckenridge or winter park in colorado?Full question:im going to ski this february in colorado. how much would it cost to ski at these places. that includes a lift ticket and ski gear rental. some of these places look like i have to stay there in order to ski there. im staying with my aunt in denver and i was wondering if i could just go for a day and not actually stay over night. is that possible for vail, breck, or winter park? Best answer:Really expensive, a day's pass at Vail is $99 and I think Breck and Winter Park are like $85. You get discounts for multiple days though. Loveland is only like $45 It would be wise to rent at a store in Denver or Idaho Springs (a town on the way to the ski areas) and just rent the skis for the duration of your stay, but the price I'm not sure of, I haven't rented in a long time. I'd take a GUESS at around $90 for a week but that could be way off. I know you can get like $20 for a day though, and the resorts charge more. You don't have to stay at any of them, most people in Denver just go for the day, to all of those. Where are the best ski spots at Vail?Full question:I have already partially asked this, but I hope to go go Vail this April and would like to know the best runs to hit, be it a secret or designated trail. Please be specific, as I have researched enough to know that "back bowls" are good. I love cruisers and trees, and any isolated areas or powder stashes would be great to know about. I don't particularly like steeps, although I can handle anything. Best answer:Bue sky Basin. It has trees power some easy huckable cliffs. Some Steeps if you want. It is pretty difficult skiing which provides a great challange to any more advanced skier. Watch out for rocks. what kinds of things are available to do in vail Colorado other than skiing in the winter?Full question:I want to go snowboarding in vail this winter but my family doesn't do snow sports so what is available to do for my family? Best answer:Vail have a web site where you can find out stuff http://www.vail.com/activities/activities-home.aspx There is also shopping. When is the best time of the year to go to Vail for prime ski conditions?Full question:We also would like to see a good bit of snowfall while we are there. Typically, when is the best chance of this? Thank you! Best answer:Mid January all the way through February is when Colorado really gets snowed on. March is too late and the good snow starts to become slushy, but there are a few times in March where it really dumps snow, it is just too hard to predict snow in March. How packed is Vail in Janury?Full question:Hey I'm finally going out to Vail, and was wondering how packed the mountain is during January. Are we talking have to keep an eye out for people, or standing shoulder to shoulder coming down the mountain? Best answer:its always pretty packed, but it shouldn't be that bad. i would say keep an eye out for people. have fun! How should I plan a ski trip to Vail, CO?Full question:I desperately want to ski Vail for the last week it's open (April 8-15) but I want to spend no more than $3500 dollars. My group has three adults and one child (who skis free). I want a five-day ticket for one adult and a child, a rental car, a flight from Baltimore, MD, and lodging close to the slopes. Any recommendations? Also, if you wish, I would like to know from a Vail veteran where the best places to hit would be. We can ski any terrain, but don't prefer steeps. Thank you in advance for any answers! Best answer:check vailonsale.com for lodging , fly frontier or united, and skip the rental car and take a van to vail from DIA [VAIL HAS FREE BUS SERVICE IN TOWN.] i am planning a trip out west to Vail or Aspen this winter to ski?Full question:i've only skiied on machine made snow, and was wondering if i would have to do something or get different skis for powder skiing in Vail? Best answer:Leave your skis at home, save the shipping fee and rent a pair at the resort. It has been years since I skied in Co. Their snow is quite light and it can be skied like it is not there on most of the slopes. Only in the back bowls and some of the less popular (steeper) runs would you have to change much in the way of technique. Ski very balanced front and back and side to side. You should do fine and have a great time. If you are having trouble, go take a lesson from a professional instructor. Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: How many hours do you usually work at Vail resorts throughout Colorado?Full question:I'm keen to do a working holiday in Colorado with Vail resorts and was wondering how many hours most people do per week and if its possible to do as little as 20. Any personal experience would be great. Another thing, let me know which resort you prefer out of breckenridge, vail, aspen etc. Im interested in Good night life, heaps of terrain and best snowfall. Many thanks Best answer:me, none sorry Any good Mexican breakfast taquerias in lakewood on the way to vail?Full question:I am going to be hungry and I don't want to spend my money on the ridiculously expensive restaurants in Vail. Best answer:Santiago's Lakewood Owner(s): Francisco & Josie Cisneros Phone Number: (303) 936-3030 Address: 95 S. Sheridan Blvd Suite B, Lakewood, CO 80226 Are you supposed to remove your vail after the wedding ceremony?Full question:I was told the other day by a good friend of mine that you are supposed to remove your vail after the ceremony, before going to the reception. Does anyone know the proper wedding etiquette for this? My wedding is in 5 weeks, and I need an answer. Thanks. Best answer:There is no proper etiquette for it. Most women get rid of it simply because it is a hassle to deal with throughout the reception (eating, dancing, people getting caught in it while hugging, etc). However, if you want to continue to wear it during your reception, there is no etiquette against it. I wore mine to my reception, mostly because I wanted it in my wedding pictures through the reception, and because my hair was very intricately done so it might have messed it up to take it out. Hope that helps. They run flights to eagle vail Colorado airport every winter. Why aren't there any for sale? I called and they couldnt tell my why. Best answer:Is there skiing in vail in late Novemeber? How are the roads from denver to vail?Full question:We like to drive or maybe take a bus to Vail? how are the roads? And is there any snow in late November? would love to hear answers from the locals!=) Best answer:I-70 is a major, major Interstate. It can get closed down if there's a blizzard, but the road crews work hard to keep it clear. If it's snowing, they're right out there and traffic just follows behind them as they scrape the snow off. Makes for a slower trip but a safer one. I wouldn't worry about it, just go and have a great time. Where is a good place to wait tables in or near Vail Arizona?Full question:I will be moving from Indiana to Vail Arizona and want to wait tables, I enjoy being a server. Just wondering where a nice place to work near Vail to make decent money. I currently work as a server for a red lobster in Indiana. Best answer:Vail is kind of the middle of nowhere. Its a small town, 2500 people or so. Its probably worth your time to look for a job in Tucson, which isn't that far away. Tucson has some nice resorts and restaurants, as well as all of the typical chain restaurants. Is there a cheap transportation from Vail airport to Keystone?Full question:Is there a shuttle or bus that goes from Vail airport to Keystone? I'm surprised that there is not a regular shuttle from one vail resort to another. Getting from Vail airport to Keystone is potentially more expensive than the airline ticket. Amazing. Best answer:It is amazing that Colorado Mountain Express (CME) doesn't have a regular schedule for that. They are owned by Vail Resorts, after all. There is a company in Summit County that runs shuttles between Summit County and Vail / Beaver Creek. The price is around $40 - $45 each way. The least expensive option to get from Vail to Keystone would be to hop on the Silverthorne Factory Outlet Express shuttle for $15 and then catch the Summit Stage from Silverthorne to Keystone. Kind of a hassle, but cheap. Does anyone have any recommendations of places to stay in the Breckenridge, Vail ski resort area?Full question:I am planning a ski trip for 6-8 to Colorado and would love any recommendations anyone has on places to stay...Breckenridge, Vail, Copper, Keystone, etc. Preferably something that is not too pricey. Thanks! Best answer:For Breckenridge, I hear Beaver Run Resort is nice and a great ski-in/ski-out loacation. They have anything from standard hotel rooms to 3-4 bedroom suites that can accomodate 8-10 people. They are also offering some winter special offers, like stay a certain amount of nights get one night free and free lift tickets for one day: http://www.beaverrun.com/resort.php/BEAVER_RUN/CCM_100 You can read reviews here: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-358067-beaver_run_resort_conference_center-i Vail has tons of great places to stay but will be VERY expensive. Is it possible to drive from Denver to Vail this time of year?Full question:My wife made a reservation in Vail next week and wants to drive there. Is it even possible to drive there from Denver this time of year? Best answer:Sure... why not? I've made that trip a number of times in the winter... just be sure to have CHAINS because those are sometimes required to go through the Eisenhower Tunnel. Any cool hotels in vail that are cheapish?Full question:hey i am planning to go to vail and i would like to know if you could recommend any good hotels that are not too expensive. Thanks!!! -annie xoxoxoxoxox no rude comments please. Best answer:theres a few, look at expedia.com to find the one that you want What is the best way to get from Denver International Airport to Vail, CO?Full question:Im going out to visit a friend that just moved to Vail, Im flying into Denver, and was wondering what the best way to get to Vail. Second problem is after I visit them, Im going to visit my uncle in Boulder. Whats the best way to get from point A (airport) to point B (Vail) to point C (Boulder) Best answer:Do you mean what route to take thats the quickest? I could tell you how to get to Vail from DIA maybe, but have never been north of Denver, i lived out on the Western slope. I passed thru Vail every month on my way back and forth to Denver, Vails on I-70 West. How to get from Denver to Vail?Full question:Looking for reasonably priced transportation from the Denver Airport to the town of Vail. Mind you it will be for just one person. Any suggestions are welcomed. Best answer:Colorado Mountain Express. Would going to Aspen or Vail or Denver Colorado be good trip in February?Full question:What is better Aspen or Vail, Colorado? Looking to sight see and ski. Whats best recommended? Best answer:between the two i would go to vail its a bigger resort and easy to get to but i would suggest steamboat. its nice cute town not very crowded and much cheaper but still with all the tourist options that vail and aspen have. breckenridge is also nice. Where does the vail lead in the 5th Harry potter?Full question:What does it lead to. I know Sirius dies but what is behind the vail? Best answer:I'm pretty sure the veil leads to nothing but you die if you do fall into it. Confusing but J.K Rowling doesn't explain it so yeah.. abit ambiguous. The whispers behind the veil are obviously those of the dead. Only Harry can hear it because he has seen someone die whereas they haven't. Also the reason why only he can see the Thestrals that drive the school carriages. Do you need to buy a lift ticket to Vail, CO if you just want to go hiking and get a view of the mountains?Full question:My family and I are going to Colorado next month, and we have Vail as a place we want to visit for a day. We don't want to ski. We just want to have fun in the snow and get a nice view of the mountains. Are lift tickets necessary to enter Vail? How do they work? Best answer:Lift tickets are necessary to ride the lifts. If you can find a way around the lifts I'd recommend it. I lived in CO for twelve years and I can tell you Vail is not the best part of the I-70 corridor. It's good skiing, but there are plenty of good time all over the place. Don't pay 70 dollars (or whatever ungodly price they charge now) just to ride the lift. If you must get to the top of a mountain, drive the half hour to Breckinridge and take the T-Bar up to the top of peak 7. On a good day you can see what appears to be pretty much the whole state. I'm not sure how you get up a t-bar without skis or a snowboard, but I'm sure it's possible. Breckinridge has a better town than Vail too. It's bigger and less snooty. how long are flights from vail to toronto?Full question:How long is a airplane flight from vail to toronto? Best answer:you use the mineral veil last. it's supposed to help the other makeup stay on longer and keep a fresher look on your face Can anyone tell me if any part of Interstate 80 is closed between Chicago and Vail Colorado?Full question:With all of the flooding in the Midwest I was wondering if there were any major highway closures between Chicago and Vail Colrado. Best answer:traffic is being diverted around Des Moines for the time being plan on some extra time around this area and future closing migh be around the Mississippi at the border of Illinois & Iowa Where to snowboard in Colorado close to Vail?Full question:I'm moving to Aurora, Colorado in a few months but I want to know what is the closest spot, mountain, town, etc for snowboarding??? I know Vail is like 1 1/2 hour away but is there anything closer? (any websites will also be helpful) thanks. Best answer:The closest is Echo Mountain.
