Questions and AnswersHere are common questions and answers relating to Vancouver... Snow Skiing QuestionsThere are currently no questions relating to Vancouver in the snow skiing category.Questions from Other CategoriesThe following questions were posted in various Yahoo's categories other than 'Snow Skiing' - hopefully they are relevant: Vancouver?Full question:This summer, my friend & I were planning a roadtrip or travelling outside of the province for a week or so. We had decided on Cali Or Florida at first but came to the conclusion that Vancouver would be better for now and we'd save the tropics for the upcoming winter. My question is: what places should we visit there? which is one of the nicest, but not too pricey hotels? any kind of information? also what's the legal age over there? Best answer:Legal age is 19. It would be cheaper to stay out of the downtown core in Burnaby or New Westminster near a skytrain staion to that you could easily commute into the downtown core for a night out or a day excursion. Parking in the downtown core runs about $13 for a full day and night. Good tourist spots are the Aquarium in Stanley Park (but the park has recenlty been damaged by a winter storm). Grouse Mountain is awsome especially on a clear day (in the summer there are hiking trails and other activities), Capilano Suspension Bridge is cool but expensive (Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge is cool as well and free). You have to go to Whistler (I recommend taking a Morning ATV ride to the top of the peak you get to see bears and deer as well as taking a breath taking ride!!!). It you can take a trip to Vancouver Island hop on the ferry and hit up the Royal BC Museum, Minature World, the Butterfly Garens, the Craigdourough Castle, and Buchart Gardens!! Take a walk in Chinatown in the Downtown core and enjoy the sights and sounds. You should definatly walk the sea wall from Canada Place all the way around Stanley Park. Shopping is great on Robson Street and if you are into Celeberty Sightings go to the lounge in the Sutton, or just walk the streets of Vancouver and I guarente that you will see something being filmed. Gastown is also a unique place to walk and you have to have a meal at the Old Spagetti Factory as well as Steamworks (It's a Brewery try the sampler platter to try the different beers that they have on tap), both in Gastown. There is so much to do just depends what you are into. Hope that helps!!! vancouver?Full question:any who has been or lives there, whats some cool stuff to do? Best answer:stoked is right. there are tons of stuff to do here. Any season equals loads of cools stuff, from skiing to swimming to hiking to sports to whatever you like ! Vancouver Canuks and Montreal Canadians question : Will they both be able to emerge from the semifinals?Full question:I think Vancouver has what it takes this year to finally defeat Chicago (a team that put us out of the running last year). I think Vancouver has a strong lineup this time around. Montreal can defiantly defeat Pittsburgh in game seven. Halak has been great, along with Cammerelli and Laperiere scoring goals every game. Best answer:I think the answer is yes, but not easily. Vancouver Canucks: They are certainly capable of winning the series after being behind 3-1 at one point. The Canuck are known to be the "comeback kids" and comebacks aren't rare for them. Despite the unfortunate loss of leading defender Sami Salo's injury, Canucks have several players who can step up and play extra minutes for him. Kevin Bieksa, who scored 2 goals in game 5, Edler and Erhoff are all great players. As long as Alberts and O'brien can stay OUT of the penalty box, the defensemen are good to go. For the forwards, Sedins and Burrows need to step it up a notch. Raymond, Kesler, and Samuelsson are all no doubt great players, who played a good hard game last night. I think Grabner's speed will also be very beneficial to the Canucks. Montreal: I think any team who can beat Washington Capitals is a team that is definitely capable and deserving of moving on. Everyone expected them to choke, and they moved past the Caps, and brought the defending champs, Penguins to Game 7. Not an easy task. Jaroslav Halak has been exceptional, making wonderful saves. He is probably the key reason why Habs are still in right now. But they of course, have great players too Penguins and Blackhawks are two young teams with great skilled players, like Crosby, Malkin, Kane, and Teows. Beating them wil not be an easy job, but i believe it is possible...and i hope it does happen. Afterall, we are Canadian =) GO CANUCKS GO!! What does Vancouver mean to you? and where is your favorite spot in Vancouver?Full question:I am doing a series of post cards, that will have quotes from people about where and what they love about Vancouver B.C. The image on the postcard will be really different and graphically interesting. This is my senior project and i want something cool to put in my portfolio. Best answer:Vancouver is my fairy tale hide away. Some day I hope to hit the lottery so I can retire in Victoria. How is the Vancouver job front doing since the recession?Full question:I have been planning to live and work there for a good while now before the recent global recession began to been planning I hoped to live work there for a year possibly longer, so now I am wondering whats happening over there on the job front since this dark recession, I am in the UK and the jobs have been hit very hard Over here just like America, How is it for Vancouver and the rest of Canada? I was over in Vancouver last December- January 2008 and the jobs there were plentiful, how so now? Best answer:There are still jobs available but it's definately slowing down and becoming much more competitive. There are still much work in the service industry but it's generally minimum wage to start ($8/hr). BC has one of the lowest minimum wages in Canada especially when you compare it to the cost of living. There is a lot of contract/casual work for higher pay available but of course, that isn't stable nor long term. Keep in mind when finding work, that the 'living' wage in Metro Vancouver is $16.74/hr (over double our minimum wage) (From the Vancouver Province). So getting a job may be easy, but being able to afford rent, food, utilities, transportation, etc may not come so easily. This is why many people I know end up having to take 2 or more jobs to make ends meet. How crowded will Vancouver be during the Paralympics this March?Full question:My wife and I were thinking of traveling to Vancouver this March. Are nightclubs in this city still busy during the weeknights? Staying on Granville, any recommendations for night clubs? Best answer:It depends on the night club you go to. Some night clubs have special nights during the weekdays. Celebrities is PACKED on Tuesdays, because it's strait night and 3 dollar high balls. Republic Night club is open tuesday-sunday, and normally has a large crowed on thursdays Thursday nights at the standard, although not a great club becomes fairly packed as well if you are here after June 26th, you should check out the club Venue... It's will just be opening so will be packed for sure. Thank You:) Best answer:I hear that the University of British Columbia has a great program, as well as location. I am visiting in August and plan to study the same thing. Is Vancouver safe to walk around and most importantly is West Vancouver BC safe to live and retire my parents?Full question:Im planning to live in West Vancouver. From what i have seen online is that its one of the best places to live, but it also has a lot of crime. By that I heard that there are a lot of house break ins, murders, and that there is some sort of gang war. Also is it safe to walk or drive from west van to gastown. If West Van is safe, where would you reccomend is the safest, and if not then where is the safest city. Thanks! Best answer:I've walked from West Vancouver to Gastown, and it's a loooong walk, but completely safe. You always hear rumours about weird people in Stanley Park, but I wouldn't worry about it. On the other hand, I think there are so many break-ins in West Vancouver just because it's known for being so rich. The richest people in the GVRD live in West Van, so that's where the robbers go. If you're looking for a safe place, I live in Burnaby and it's very safe here. I don't even know the last time there was a murder or break-in or anything like that anywhere nearby. Now it's not nearly as ritzy as West Vancouver, but it's safe, and it's beautiful too. And there are some houses near Deer Lake that rival those in West Van. But they're kinda tucked away and it's not known for being a rich area, so you don't get the crime that you might elsewhere. If there's anything else I can do to help, just send me a message, I'd be glad to help. How early should I arrive at the Vancouver International Airport before departure time?Full question:How early should I arrive at the Vancouver International Airport before departure time? I have also read that the earthquake is suppose to sink vancouver island? Does anyone know how big it is suppose to be? Will vancouver island sink? What type of destruction would it cause? How could me and my family keep safe? Any answers to make me feel better would help, thanks. Best answer:I used to live in Bremerton, on Puget Sound. I fished off the south side of Bainbridge Island, which has cliffs that are about 50 or so feet high. I read that those cliffs were created by an earthquake. It just shoved the whole end of the island fifty feet straight up. I thought about what would happen to anything on that land if it happened again, or suddenly dropped 50 feet. I have since moved. I want to do some hikings in the nature but i don't have a car. Do you have some suggestions for me ? I already did all the parks in Vancouver + Victoria and Whistler will come soon. Thanks. Best answer:Lynn Valley has Lynn Canyon Park and Lynn Headwaters park. Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver, while not wilderness and not large, is very nice. Check out the Baden Powell Trail. Parts of it are accessible close to transit. Bowen Island offers some nice hiking/walking which you can access about 200 yards away from the Bowen ferry dock and the trails which are further away are easy to get at if you hitchhike which is perfectly safe and commonly done on Bowen. There's a bus service but it's infrequent with limited routes. Does anyone know when I should be receiving my package or how long it takes to ship from Vancouver to Ontario? Thanks for any help! Best answer:Depends on the shiping company. from fedex and UPS having next day shipments to other stuff expect at lease one week in normal post What is the future of Vancouver when it comes to climate change?Full question:I like to know because I want to visit Vancouver and I want to see the beautiful things that Vancouver has to offer. But what's the future of Vancouver? What about when it comes to climate change? Best answer:I think the climate and beauty of Vancouver is safe as long as the don't host any more Stanley Cup finals. Sheesh! How is the road from San Francisco to Vancouver in Christmas?Full question:I'm planning on driving to Vancouver from San Francisco in Christmas with a few of my friends. I was wondering if it's good idea to drive there in Christmas since it rains a lot in Washington state and Vancouver during the winter. Is the road going to be safe with all the rain and/or snow? Best answer:The rain isnt the problem. It's going through the mountain passes in Oregon when there is a blizzard or a lot of snow on the ground. You might need chains or snow tires. Do you mean Vancouver, BC or Washington? That trip is very long around 15 hours to BC with no snow or rain. Seattle and Vancouver BC can get snow. Last winter was mild and they expect more snow this year. You should check the weather cams in all three states plus Canada. I used to drive twice a year from SF to Portland and it took me 10 hours. To Seattle is another 3 hours and Vancouver 3 more. http://video.dot.ca.gov/ http://www.tripcheck.com/pages/camerasentry.asp What are some good charities in Vancouver?Full question:I'm looking to donate some money, old toys, and stuffed animals to a good charity in vancouver. and please no charities that would sell the items for their own profit. Vancouver is pretty and boring, Toronto is a big city with plenty to do! Plus in Toronto you are a lot more accessible to many more places. Professional couple want to move to Vancouver area.
