Would like to avoid crowd at Tokyo Disneyland?Full question:When in April 2011 will Japan school year start exactly? Am planning a trip to Tokyo and would like to avoid the crowd in in Tokyo Disneyland. However, would still want to catch some snow in Gala Yuzawa Station by April so am trying to schedule the earliest we could go to Japan but with Japanese students already back in school. Thanks for any info. Best answer:It depends on each school. Usually, it's April 6-8. Trip Tips for Echigo Yuzawa, Niigata, Japan?Full question:I will be going to Yuzawa after X'mas and will be staying a few minutes from the Echigo Yuzawa Train Station. Tried surfing online but can't find any information on the following: (1) What is the best Hegi Soba place close by? (2) Best place for local seafood? (3) Is the Gala Yuzawa or Yuzawa Kogen ski field better? I want to try the Yuzawa Ropeway, so maybe Yuzawa Kogen would be a good option to save some time? (4) Any night activities after dinner which finishes at 7.30pm? (5) Is there a town near the Echigo Yuzawa train station? Anything to see there apart from the Sake Museum, Ponshukan? Thanks so much!~~ Best answer:(1) Hegi soba restaurants Nakano-Ya(中野屋) about 213m from JR Echigo Yuzawa stn.(越後湯沢) East exit(東口)(very busy and may have to wait ocassionally) http://www.yuzawa.or.jp/foods/nakanoya/index.html http://www.umaisoba.com/menu.html http://r.tabelog.com/niigata/A1504/A150404/15000123/ (2) Local seafood? Sorry but it is not seashore but in the midst of mountains so that no local own particular seafood there. You have to have a lot of time to dine at Japanese restaurant. You can't go to and fro for such limited time. Just try Soba noodles and Sake with some appetizer like local mushroom/shrimp Tenpura/Squid shiokara(the guts pickled in salt and its ink) at Nakano-Ya. You can drop in any Sushi restaurant there are many seafood available anyway. (3)Yuzawa snow is nice and famous but the field is pretty crowdy there because of too convenient from Tokyo. (4) Foot-bathing(Ashi-Yu) (it is free!!!) Feel Onsen(hotspa) if you have time. http://yuzawa.koiwazurai.com/yuzawaonsen7.html Or you may try real Onsen for awhile if you are interestedd. Echigo Yuzawa is Onsen town. (5) Ponshukan museum is just next to JR Echigo Yuzawa stn. Be awasre that it opens 9AM to 6PM. http://www.ponshukan.com/ So you may try Sake hot spa for 800Yen like pics. http://www.ponshukan.com/sakaburo.html Or you may try Sake tastint for 500Yen there. http://www.ponshukan.com/kikizake.html Out of the Ponshunkan, there are small shopping streets next to JR stn. You can go down there from store to store just looking and asking prices. It is a small rural town for snow resort. Not any big urban town. http://www.e-yuzawa.gr.jp/english/yuzawa_eng.pdf Eating crabs in Japan?Full question:I love crabs and would want to try some while in Japan. I will be visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yuzawa and Hakone. Which city is the best place to have crabs? I would love to try grilled crabs and hot pot. Which type of crab should I go for? I believe there are different types of crabs? Which type is the most delicious? Best answer:Generally we Japanese love Taraba-Gani (タラバ蟹 or たらば蟹), a popular but expensive crab. And I recommend you to eat crabs via Shabu-Shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ), that is, hot pot. I suppose you should employ Google map. Try to search like "Tokyo かに しゃぶ". Where to eat crabs? Beats me! I think all cities will do. Sorry for my poor English, and I hope your stay will be great one. Thanks.
